Basketball Club (Men's): Treasurer

Hey everyone, my name is Togay, I am a second year economics student.

Ive always had a love for basketball, having played it for multiple years in a team setting in Cyprus and becoming the 4th team captain last year. I enjoyed every step of the way and hope to continue being part of the community.

I hope to become the treasurer as I want to carry on working with the committee and keep on growing the basketball scene at UCL. Having captained the 4th team this year, I managed to sign up the team to a private league, planning the payments and any other operational issues that arose. Apart from this, my background in economics has equipped me with many skills to excel at the treasurer role. In addition, having organised many events in the past, I am aware of the many financial aspects that need to be taken care of in all stages of an events process, which will aid me in the work I perform as treasurer as well.

Furthermore, I plan on working with the social secretary to achieve many events for members through the society's funding. Good collaboration is key in such situations and I hope to achieve this if I am elected.

All in all, I have extremely enjoyed being part of this society and hope to carry on next year as well.

As a 4th team player this year, I want to contribute to the team more in the upcoming season. I think being the treasurer and helping the club and the teams with the funding and management of money is a possible way to do so. I also believe that my financial skills and background would also be useful. I’lI will do my best in working with the other comittee members to move the club to a better position, and boost our success in the upcoming years. #betterthanKings

I am running for club treasurer because of my passion in basketball and interest in understanding the financial aspects of running a club. The competitive nature of basketball and its ability to connect people from different backgrounds continue to draw me toward the sport. As such, I wish to play a greater role within the club beyond that of a club member to help promote an inclusive and welcoming community for all basketball enthusiasts at UCL.  

To me, the role of treasurer is integral because it involves the efficient allocation of limited financial resources to provide funding for all club activities. Therefore, I am looking to play an impactful role in ensuring the smooth financial operation of the club in carrying out activities that enrich the university lives of its members. 

I believe I am a suitable candidate for this role because of my experience allocating budgets for equipment purchase and instrument repairs as a quartermaster in my high school band. Engaging with external stakeholders and collaborating with the band's executive committee in managing the logistics of concert performances has developed my communication skills and ability to work closely with others in a team. In addition, my past internship experience as an accountant has developed in me a very high level of attention to detail, which will enable me to excel as a club treasurer.
