Hi I'm Silvia:) I'm a friendly asian:) and I'm running for Welfare Officer for Asian Social Network. I have really enjoyed interacting with people and want to have a bigger role in the society so I can maintain the positive environment and make sure everyone feels welcome, also introducing this society to a wider community at ucl. I've loved every event I've attended but I have to say my favourite event this year was games night. I want to make sure we have just as good of a time next year and so that's why I'm applying for Welfare Officer!!! C:

Helen Bao

Hello everyone! I’m Helen, a second-year student in Medical Science and Engineering.

I would like to run for Welfare and Communications Officer and assist the committee in running the society effectively and bringing another year of exciting events.

Having much experience in designing, planning events, and fundraising, I have developed skills in effective teamwork and communication. Using these skills, I hope to work happily with the rest of committee, other societies (for some interesting collabs hehe), and make all the events are enjoyable for everyone. I love being part of teams, working both behind the scenes and on-site, and just meeting new people as I have made a lot of amazing friends at ASN.

As a Chinese who grew up in China, Vietnam, and Thailand, and now attending university in London, you could call me a ‘third culture kid’. I have grown up in different Asian cultures and often experienced what it’s like to be in a new environment that you’re not completely used to. Joining ASN brought me a sense of comfort and chance to connect with the diverse ‘Asian’ culture I love so much, and I would like to bring that comfort and joy to others who will decide to join ASN too. On top of that, I have lots of interesting ideas future events. Hence, I hope that I can be given a chance to serve this position and create a vibrant and fun Asian Social Network for the upcoming academic year. Thank you!

Claudia Pushpanathan

Asian Social Network has been a great society with really immersive socials. I want to play a bigger part in this which is why I am standing for this role.

The reason I picked this particular role is that maintaining a positive environment is important to me and I have also had experience with this when working in schools.

I also have experience in being a point of contact as I am part of the UCL Career's extra buddy scheme which is similar to a transition mentor. I have had great feedback from being a point of contact and am very dedicated to this role.

I also feel like this role will be enjoyable for me as it is collaborative and is about the welfare of the members of the society. I am also a good communicator and want to utilise these skills for the society.

Another reason why I am standing is that I want there to be more south Asian leader representation and the ASN gives me a great opportunity to showcase this.

Overall, I believe I am a great candidate for this role and will do my best!
