If elected, I would make the UCL Juggling and Circus Society great again. For over 20 years, the Juggling and Circus Society has been providing a space for those wishing to practise juggling, flow arts, and other circus skills. Their regular sessions mix individual learning with workshops in an informal and friendly atmosphere. More recently, the society was blocked by Heinz Beans on Twitter, a truly astonishing feat they have completed in just under three and a half hours. As Activities and Engagement Officer, I will get the Juggling and Circus Society blocked by Students' Union UCL.
Learn a skill that will last you for life! – or, if you end up outside Jobcentre because you do a fake degree, a skill that will keep you alive. They currently teach juggling, unicycling, mini circus biking, poi, staff spinning, diabolo, hula hooping, and much more. They also hold monthly Fire Nights where you can try out your skills with extra consequences (fire), along with various meetups and plenty of social events. I am also one of the few candidates with a legitimate claim to the Jester's Privilege, which I shall invoke as a candidate for Activities and Engagement Officer.
All skill levels are welcome – whether you are looking for a space to practise cool circus tricks or want to learn a new skill to convince your ex that you are living your best life without them; join them in the North Cloisters every Tuesday 7-9pm for their regular sessions and at the Huntley from 9-10pm for the social afterwards!
This campaign is not endorsed by the Juggling and Circus Society, which you may find on Twitter and Instagram @ucl_jacs; I believe we can all agree that it would be absolutely absurd for a clown society to meddle in Union electoral politics.
My overall aim is to make UCL a more inclusive, sustainable, and safe environment. All the students, regardless of their hobbies or backgrounds, should feel like they belong. Some of my key goals are:
- Improve and facilitate communication between societies and the Union, with the help of presidents and officers.
- Continue to develop activities at UCL East as well as societies that operate there.
- Make funds for societies quick and easier to access for activities reimbursed by the Union.
- Help TeamUCL find better sports grounds and become more diverse and accessible clubs.
I have been an active member of UCL SU since I joined in 2020. I have worked at Open Days and Graduations as a student ambassador, as well as volunteering through UCL services. Moreover, I have been Social Secretary for the PPE Society as well as Volunteering Secretary for the Women’s Hockey Club. I have worked closely with presidents and treasurers to organise large events and projects, and I understand Union logistics and how to make things happen. I am passionate about making the Union a better place, and I believe I have the necessary knowledge, drive, and experience to achieve so.
I am driven, hardworking, and genuinely care about the student experience at UCL. Becoming a member of TeamUCL taught me many things about myself, brought me lifelong memories and friends, and motivated me through university. Being involved in different committees and activities has allowed me to truly grasp a feeling of UCL’s community and the issues it faces, making me very keen to fix them and make it a better place for all students. I want to be able to bring my vision, and many others', into reality. I believe I have what it takes, and I'm excited about the challenge ahead.
- Create a ticket reselling page (e.g., Scala) for more flexibility and lower commitment after advanced sign-ups;
- Increase opportunities for clubs to advertise, especially smaller ones (e.g., booths, ‘try-this’ events) during term time;
- Increase storage and bookable activity spaces for clubs on campus to encourage casual participation (no travelling/time costs);
- Further integrate UCL East with main campus (e.g., shuttle bus);
- Provide incentives for engagement during fairs (e.g., SU branded cups);
- Create an activity idea submissions and feedback form;
- Ensure accessibility and inclusion.
- Previous jobs with UCL+SU (Print Room Café, Welcome Ambassador, UCL graduation etc.) gave me perspective on barriers people face during participation and engagement and why certain activities/sites are more popular. I can divert resources to more in-demand events and ensure equal access.
- Previous experience of internal bureaucratic processes — I know what’s achievable/the most efficient route to take.
- Strengths: patience during negotiations, making everyone feel welcome and heard, being a people person.
- I thrive in high stress/busy environments (needed during periods like Welcome Week).
- I prioritise accessibility and diversity - it’s not just a quota to meet. As a queer WOC and pride officer of Dodgeball Club, I am experienced in allyship, fostering inclusion, and encouraging participation. I’m passionate about creating equal opportunities and helping everyone get their perfect uni experience.
- I genuinely love working with, befriending, and talking to people.
- I’m a friendly, familiar face you’ve probably seen around campus (cough, Print Room). I want to give back to the community by making UCL the most fun and inclusive it can be.
- Establish leisure lounges and sleeping pods across campus so students can have a better balance in life and study.
- Schedule more spaces for societies to store equipment.
- Schedule more funding for clubs and societies and organize society crossover events.
- Promote engagement across different campuses (East, IOE), i.e., free shuttle bus.
- Promote end-of-year career fair.
- Work with student associations and societies to ensure their voices are heard and their needs are met.
- Engage with cultural diversity by delivering activities such as Black History Month and Asian History Month.
- Collaboration and communication skills: I have a background in math+physics+stat from Natural Science. This means that I will need to collaborate with students from diverse departments, and this has trained me to hear voices broadly.
- Multicultural awareness: I have experience living in different cities in China, the Philippines, and now London. This suggests that I am adaptable and can navigate different cultural contexts. It will be beneficial in this role where I need to engage with students from diverse backgrounds and create events that are inclusive and accessible to everyone.
I'm FUN, CREATIVE and EASYGOING, just what activity & engagement officer needs.
If elected, I will establish leisure lounges and sleeping pods on campus, schedule more spaces and funding for clubs and societies, promote engagement across different campuses, promote end-of-year career fairs, and engage with cultural diversity through events like Black History Month and Asian History Month. I will also bring collaboration and communication skills, as well as multicultural awareness based on my experience gained by interacting with diverse people on campus and in different countries.
Better now - Quick fixes to Union processes and facilities to create immediate improvements for everyone. Streamline training to make webforms clearer and reduce rejections. Make better use of existing activity and storage spaces.
Better future - Next year is the first year of the Student Life Strategy: UCL and the Union's plan to transform student life across all of Activities. I will hold UCL to its promises, ensure no funding is wasted, and make our voices heard at every step.
More fun - Work with student officers to organise inter-society events and balls throughout the year.
As Arts Officer, President of Stage Crew and Activities Team staff, I know first-hand what our clubs and societies need, and I will work to make it happen. This year, I repaired and upgraded the AV equipment in our two largest spaces, got all six pianos tuned, and renegotiated theatre funding to give societies a bigger cut of their ticket sales.
Over the past year, I've built good relationships with staff members in key Union departments. I know the ins and outs of our Union and will use this to work for you to make real, tangible changes.
Next year will be extremely important for activities: the Student Life Strategy will bring the biggest investment ever in our Union. I have the passion, experience and connections to hit the ground running, implementing its aims with not a minute wasted in actioning real change for the future.
At the same time, I will work to make the smaller things better right now, making an immediate difference for everyone. I am determined, organised, and I get stuff done.
I've got so much out of my time with clubs & societies - I want to make sure everyone else can too.

If elected, my goal would be to create a vibrant, engaged, and connected community through meaningful and impactful events and activities. I would strive to create events that are inclusive, accessible, and appealing to a broad range of community members. I would hope to create events and activities that have a positive impact on the community. I would aim to create events and activities that foster engagement and connection among community members. And I would hope to bring a creative and innovative approach to event planning.
As a former student council president in high school, I have experience leading a team and making decisions and coming up with creative ideas to engage and motivate the student body. I've planned and managed events for the student body. I also have lots of experience communicating with a diverse group of people, including students, teachers, and administrators. This experience can be valuable in an Activities and Engagement Officer role, where I will need to communicate effectively with community members, staff, and volunteers.
I have a passion for creating a vibrant and engaged community, and a commitment to creating events and activities that have a positive impact on students and the wider community. I have experience in event planning, community outreach, and project management, and the ability to organize and execute successful events and activities that engage and inspire a community. Additionally, I am trustworthy and honest, which I think is an extremely important quality as a sabbatical officer.
Arts for All: ArtsUCL Beginners Show in Blooms, social arts program
Buildings & Bookings: New sports grounds for TeamUCL, more performance spaces and time in Bloomsbury Theatre, improved room booking system for socs
Collaboration: Committee hub for info with an inter-club chat function, more integration between clubs, socs + volunteering
Hype: Larger scale Varsity Series with an ArtsUCL halftime show, ArtsUCL calendar for upcoming shows
Inclusion: ensure all activity is inclusive. Activity throughout the summer for postgrads, and at UCL East campus so the entire student body is included
I have 2 years of experience as a voting member of the Activities Zone, and 1 on the Union Executive Committee.
In my role, as Sports Officer, I work closely with the Activities Officer and have already fought for new sports facilities and expanded TeamUCL's Diversity and Inclusion program to ensure all our activity is inclusive. I have met with several groups across UCL (ArtsUCL, Dept & Cultural Socs, Women’s and POC networks, Volunteering) to integrate sport into the wider UCL community. I would continue this as Activities Officer so that all our communities can benefit from each other.
Activities have massively shaped my 5 years at UCL, and I've enjoyed every minute of it! Having been a President, Sports Rep and Sports Officer, I've worked closely with the Union for years. I am very easy-going and approachable & would be eager to hear about any changes that you’d want made. In these roles, I've enjoyed getting to know people from various clubs and societies and representing all your interests at meetings and Activities Zones. I would love the opportunity to build on this next year, with Arts, Socs and Volunteering, to help even more people enjoy activities at UCL!

I hope to make student feel absolutely comfortable being in school when they are engaged with fun activities, social events as well as their lectures. I hope to manage activities for clubs and societies. The saying “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” should not be underestimated because everyone needs to find a balance where they can take a break, relax and get rejuvenated for more school work and this can be done when there are fun activities, getting to know each other in school and discussing issues both with academics and personal life.
I am a very social person and I have worked for a hunger of years as a public relations manager, managing brand reputation and also clients, managing projects and events, ensuring the right things are fine at the right time, handling PR campaigns and I will be able to bring that people management skill and my great communication skill to this role, planning, management, bringing people together and ensuring there are fun activities that will engage people, making them have a safe place to chill out and relax at school asides just studying. I will bring my skills to convene and connect people.
I’m experienced with creating engaging activities, I will ensure there is no dull moment in school by creating regular activities for students to join in, connect with others, have a safe place for relaxation. Regular events like games, hangouts, food and drink fairs, sip and paint activities, talent showcase, trainings, art exhibitions etc.
I will ensure every student has access to recreational activities that they can engage with which will make their life as a student fun and move easily.
