Candidates

Shourya Shrivastava

Houston, we have a nomination. Hey there! I'm Shourya Shrivastava and I've been a fanatic about everything space ever since my dad put up those glow-in-the-dark stars on my bedroom ceiling. At one point of this mania, I remember hallucinating a nebula in my room too, and I swear I wasn't under the influence of drugs. I drove this crazy fanaticism into a space-blog, and then an astrophysics podcast and now a degree in astrophysics.

UCLSS was the first society I joined, and one I am most excited for. If elected, my priority would be to increase outreach and recognition. Space is unarguably the most popular of all sciences. This can propel the society's reach quite excellently, only if proper communication is ensured. My second aim would be to execute a series of events and ideas, including:

  • Planetarium and Museum Trips
  • Movie and Launch screenings
  • Monthly socials, quizzes
  • Astro-photography workshops
  • Group discussions and debates by popular vote
  • Member-voted events
  • A termly UCLSS Magazine

I have an experience in society leadership, having been the PR officer for the Literature Club of my city and an editor for our local Journal of Space Sciences. My fixation with space has driven me 7,120 kilometres across the globe, and if elected, I would make sure those long flights pay off by helping enable my fellow members to derive the same pleasure out of the cosmos that I do.

Thank you for reading and do contact me for questions!

Hindy Rossignol

Dear all,

I believe I could be a good president for the following reasons.

As I study Astrophysics, Maths, Econ and Law, I am able to understand each branch of the society. Fascinated by Space, I have been involved in the committee this year, I noticed some areas of improvement. Today, we are focused on gathering people with an interest in space rather than learning and practicing. This year, when we participated in the UK Nanosat contest we have not been selected because of a lack of cooperation, synergy, and guidance between teams although we had very skilled students. I would have resolved this issue by organizing weekly follow up and monitoring the teams' advances. Finally, to expand our influence across fields, I would implement introductory events for beginners.

I started leadership training at 14 in Silicon Valley where I fell in love with orchestrating projects from A to Z. Dealing with people in order to achieve goals is natural for me, although it needs constant self-reflection and improvement.  Managing this society at the same time as my degree will not be an issue since I already experienced that amount of involvement when I worked at Universal Music (after The Voice kids) and at the same time in high school doing Maths and Physics.

I hope you will understand my motivations and vote for me so that I can prove to you the great results we can achieve, together at UCLSS.

Sincerely,

Hindy Rossignol
