What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Hi, I’m X (he/him). My main priorities would be:

-Push UCL to tackle the BAME grade awarding gap and institutional racism, and propose new practices such a BAME mentorship scheme

-Pressure UCL to re-join Stonewall and diligently work to make UCL actively trans-inclusive

-Work to improve the experience of disabled and neurodivergent students and bring down learning barriers

-Liaise collaboratively with EDI networks for events

I stand strongly with Palestine opposing apartheid and support workers with industrial action, and would push for student compensation

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

This year I was the lead departmental rep in the Anthropology department for three undergraduate cohorts and also served as an anti-racisms rep there for two years. I am very engaged with equality, diversity and inclusion practices.

I am currently co-leading a UCL ChangeMaker project to explore a BAME student/staff mentoring scheme addressing the awarding gap departments. I am also co-leading a new student volunteering service underway aimed at increasing awareness and education of trans healthcare in higher education settings.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

This year I was disappointed by occurrences that unfolded without student consultation. The decision not to re-join stonewall and the push against the student union’s support for strikes are quite related events which mobilised students to take action. I believe that the current leadership of the union has not been able to speak back to students’ voices and promise to do my part in changing that.

Please also vote for my friends Anoushka (for Union Affairs Officer), Daria (for Welfare Officer), Mary (for Activities Officer) and Jenna (for Education and BME Officer).

Arifa Aminy
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

My vision: diversity, access, spaces, equality, safety, opportunities, and wellbeing

My mission: Inclusive mental health service, hold cultural and festive celebrations on campus, Improve social and study spaces, e.g child-friendly study space- ongoing, spaces for disabled students and more pryer facilities. Fight for LGTBQ+ student's rights and safety and rejoin stonewall, improve Report and support system by making it simple, secure and clear outcome-based R+S system and Close attainment gap by changing the assessment system, mentoring, and learning support.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

My passion for change and my experiences, skills in management, leadership, teamworking and negotiation, people management, implementation of policy and how to build relationships with stakeholders. I have gained experience in how to plan and manage projects and how to tackle challenges in a constructive way. I also learned how to deal with challenges and find solutions

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am from Afghanistan, where I experienced discrimination, harassment on a tremendous scale. I understand the importance of equality of opportunity for all. Last 8 months I have organised so many events that have happened ever before at UCL. I have already built up the experience of working with different stakeholders and I know how things work. I have lots of ideas for next year and I am ready to hit the ground and make things happen quicker. I know UCL staff and working on projects to improve students’ experiences. For me, next year would be more action-based than learning.

Seyi Osibamowo
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Given how diverse our student body is, as Equity & Inclusion Officer I would…

  1. Work to develop sustainable plans & actions that continue to promote equity, inclusion & accessibility.
  2. Work with clubs & societies to highlight the importance of considering intersectionality when making decisions.
  3. Listen to marginalised communities within the student body to uplift & celebrate their voice and interests.
  4. Create a clear programme for celebrations such as BHM, Disability History Month and LGBTQ+ Month, as well as creating resources to distribute.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Undertaking this role would give me the opportunity to expand the work I’ve done to improve inclusivity as Arts Officer on a wider scale. I produced an artsUCL event for BHM, as Equity & Inclusion Officer I’d work closely with part time officers to create a varied programme to engage a wider audience. As an arts producer for various charities centering the queer &/or POC experience I know how to implement small actions, which naturally create a safer environment for those who are ‘Other-ed’.I feel comfortable having uNcOMfOrTaBlE but necessary conversations as a team player.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I came to university apolitical & avoidant of my identity, throughout my time within SU UCL spaces, I’ve fallen in love with my black queer womanhood & have developed a strong drive to support others in systems that weren’t built with them in mind - I believe in collective success. I’d work hard to foster welcoming spaces within the Union. Given my approachability and organisation I would love to work with you all to create a sustainable safer space for all. Follow my campaign on social media for more details on how I’d achieve these aims
