I am standing because I care.
I care about the planet, climate change and how we as students can contribute to mitigation efforts. My passion for the environment and the urgent need to combat climate change inspires my daily actions. I try to come up with innovative solutions to help lower one's individual impact on planet earth and joined Climate Action Society to take this individual approach one step further. As vice president, I aim to hold big institutions, like UCL, accountable to their sustainability pledges and speak up about their greenwashing attempts.
With activism taking up a big part of my life, I bring knowledge to the issue of climate change and how to enforce political action. Having been on the CAS committee before, I also gained experience how to be part of a society and would like to improve my skills further.
Hi everyone, I’m Julie and I'm super keen to get more students involved in climate activism!
During my time at COP26, I volunteered at a youth climate conference, I did outreach for Extinction Rebellion and I even met Greta in the flesh! One message was clear from this journey, in order to achieve a better, more sustainable world we need as many people with us as we can get.
If elected as your next VP, this is what I aim to push for.
Having sat on the CAS Committee this year, I have seen firsthand the pressing need for a more clear cut climate agenda to outline exactly how we as CAS will live up to our name of being all about climate ACTION. This would be my first aim within this role. Next, I hope to propose the need for multiple Working Groups within which members of CAS can actually start working towards this agenda. This will give us more direction as a society.
Throughout, I hope to ensure the workings of the group are as collaborative as possible within the society and also beyond by collaborating with other similar societies. But most of all, I want to make sure that CAS comes back bigger and better next year by getting loads of events ready for first years and others to get involved with straight off the bat.
