To purge the club of the heretics that are the French players (the opening, I am not racist). And to restore the Caro to its rightful glory.
Hi, I’m Shyam, a first year studying Mathematical Computation. A little bit about my chess background; I started playing at the age of 7 and have been playing competitively since, both individually and for the England Junior Team. I am still as passionate for the game as when I started and am currently pursuing the FM title (current Fide Rating of 2143). Here is an outline of my agenda for the role of President: 1) A large emphasis on lessons for beginners and intermediate players – learning any new endeavour can be daunting so I aim to set out a roadmap for those who have no idea where to begin as well as for those who have hit a bit of a stump. 2) Increase in the number of socials – this goes without saying and I will also push for more Intercollegiate socials. 3) Getting more members involved in competitive chess, hopefully fide rated games! There are many tournaments in London which I would advise you to play in and I would be happy to give advice on where to start off in this regard. 4) Start-up a 4NCL team for UCL – the 4NCL is the largest team chess competition in the UK, where top players such as Anand, MVL and Adams, to name a few, have played in over the last few years. I propose that we create our own team, which not only gives people the opportunity to play rated Standardplay games, but also watch these top players compete in person. 5) Internal UCL tournaments – e.g organising a UCL chess championship, perhaps even in a World Cup (knockout) style.
