Chelsea B Bunke

Hi! My name is Chelsea Bunke and I’m running to be President of the Canadian Society. After a year of online teaching and feelings of otherness in London, joining this society has made me feel more at home than I ever have as a Canadian at UCL. I have the skills and leadership ability to serve me in this role as I grew up captaining my sports teams and organized my high school’s newspaper for three years as Editor-in-Chief. Furthermore, as an immigrant raised in Calgary, I feel that I represent a holistic and integrated Canada. As President, I would:

  1. Hold more socials near the beginning of the year to build a bigger and brighter community of students. These introductory sessions could include a picnic near the Canada Memorial in Green Park, a pub crawl (ending at the Maple Leaf Bar, of course), or a potluck! A bigger society could also boost funding!
  2. Boost our social media presence and regularly post updates on events.
  3. Host Indigenous Canadian speakers to learn about struggles within our society.
  4. Ensure that the society is a safe space for Canadians and non-Canadians alike to feel supported! It can be hard being so far from home, and hopefully the Canadian Society can make it a bit easier.

I feel I have the passion to thrive in this role; hopefully I have your vote!
