Biopharmaceutical Society: Vice President

Hello!

My name is Kiharu and I am currently a first year Biochemistry student.

The pharma industry can often feel hard to break into, and information about undergraduate/graduate career opportunities is not readily available, seeming limited compared to some industries like law or economics. Currently at UCL, networking within this industry is also difficult and again feels lacklustre compared to other departments. 

I hope to address this in the following ways:

- Organise larger social events by collaborating with other life sciences societies

- Increase social media/newsletter output: more updates on career opportunities e.g., open days and internships 

- Introduce career insights: guest speakers can come in to talk about their career and what they did to get to that stage

I think that my previous work with the UCL Society for Application of Psychedelics and the Genetics Society has given me a good foundation to run a society, from talks, events and social media management. I hope that you can give me the opportunity to be Vice President so I can give you the opportunity to make the best of your role in the society.

Hi! I’m Rifa and in the upcoming year, I wish to venture a bit beyond my comfort zone and become more of an active member in a leading role for the Biopharma Society, which is why I have decided to run for Vice President. 

The last 3 years have been undoubtedly difficult for everyone amidst the constant on and off Covid restrictions. While there were some amazing events hosted this academic year, the restrictions left room for so little and I believe the next academic year, if all goes well, is a major chance at going above and beyond with the society. If elected Vice President, I intend to work with the President and the other committee members to host many more in-person events in the upcoming year and liven the society to a greater extent. Of course, our society will have engaging socials, but that is not all I wish to implement next academic year. I intend to suggest ideas for more informative events for those who wish to have a long term career in the biopharmaceutical industry and host career and networking events to a greater extent including insights from individuals and alumni who are currently flourishing in the field.

As the current Treasurer for the newly established UCL Pharmacology Society, I have already gained some insight on how to further develop a society that heavily involves the world of pharmaceutical and biomedical development. If elected, I will ensure that all the members make the most of being a part of the society.

Studying Biomedical Sciences allowed me to discover many aspects of the pharmaceutical, tech and neuroscience industries. My course presented me with a potential career path, that I always would consider since the age of 14. 

By being a Vice President of the BioPharmaceutical Society, I will be able to further explore the industry as well as organise events for other people to do so as well. I am looking forward to introduce new views and knowledge regarding the R&D sphere of employment as well as hear from many renowned scientists across the world.

Hello everyone! I am Aadya Bhagat, a first year Cell Biology student. My involvement with the industry began when I was an awkward middle schooler with acne problems and a desire to learn about the various medicines I could take to alleviate this. My quest to better my understanding of the industry and enhance my skills was supplemented with webinars which I attended to network with industry professionals. This furthered my desire to be directly involved in Biopharma soc. As a first-year member, I have: 

-Participated in a R&D internship in Oncology with AstraZeneca and networked with professionals in the GSK insights week programme 2022. 

-Connected with representatives from Unilever, Pfizer, J&J and Roche through webinars 

As Vice-President, I plan on implementing the following:

1) Incorporate more networking socials with professionals in the industry through the connections I have made in the past year. 

2) Promote Biopharma society and allow it to be recognised on a larger level using networking websites like Grad-cracker, Target Jobs and Indeed. 

3) Explore sponsorship  opportunities, allowing members to have access to CV writing workshops, industry specific internships, and skill development workshops with professionals. 

4) Organise monthly socials and newsletters to get to know everyone better and encourage more engagement.
