Hi everyone, I'm Sai and I'd like to be your UCL Bhangra President next year!
From being a First year rep in year one, to Vice-President in year two as well as being Social Sec of RUMS Badminton I feel I have gained valuable experience and expertise in learning how a society is run and what is required of a society President. Furthermore, I have taught several Bhangra classes and look forward to improving my dance technique and teaching skills in the future. Having secured a sponsor this year, I look forward to exploring further sponsorship opportunities and using the resources we have to create discounted merchandise and gain visibility for our society.
As a part of committee this year, following the COVID period, I was really proud of the turnouts to our Bhangra classes and seek to promote this growth in the year to come further utilising our social media presence. With our participation in Rangeela this year and a potential participation in TBS next year I also look forward to the development of our team and opportunities to come!
Ever since I started to do Bhangra at a young age, I found myself having a passion for participating in shows and want to extend the joy I get from learning this skill to others. I have been performing for around 10 years and the recognition I received from this Iead to me starting up classes, which was something seen for the first time in our school. I enjoyed improving my skills over the years and wanted to continue this in UCL’s Bhangra society hence I attended classes weekly and was fortunate to make it to the team for Rangeela. This has been one of the highlights of my Bhangra experience as it showed me the dedication required in rehearsing and gave me the opportunity to form connections with my team. I learnt a great deal from this year’s captains, including how to improve my technique and provide feedback for myself and the team. I would like to continue their work as president by maintaining the weekly classes, but introducing socials after them for the members to build a community within the society. I would also like to introduce more charity open classes to raise money, as this would build a reputation for the society, whilst also supporting a non-profit organization. Increasing representation through social media would be something I am interested in, to allow the society to expand. I would relish the opportunity to be able to represent UCL at The Bhangra Showdown in a team as this has been a goal of mine and I am determined to compete next year.
