This year I worked as a first-year representative in Bangla society and it was one of the highlights of my year. I made many friends & really enjoyed my time at UCL. So for next year, I have decided to apply for event director & be genuinely more engaged with society. I believe by working as an event director I will be able to improve my skills like planning & organising an event, good collaboration with teammates & making the best decision to run a successful big event. I also believe this role will improve my communication skills by collaborating with other universities society members and therefore will help me to expand my network. Moreover, being an Economics & Business background student I believe I am able to learn valuable skills which will help me in the future in my corporate life.
As a long-standing member of Bangla society, I have had the chance to attend many cultural events organised by Bangla society, both on campus and beyond. Not only has it provided insights into Bengali and other south asian cultures of shared values, but also into the management decisions that go into organising them.
Being present at those events, I have got to speak to our current committee members and observe them dividing tasks among teammates to make sure it runs smoothly. As the events director, I would make sure to arrange discussions to come up with fun new ideas and themes for our events, do adequate planning, and finally turn it into a reality.
I would look to build on the skills I developed as an executive manager in the student's leadership position of my sixth-form college. I would work closely with the marketing and the treasury team in deciding on a plan of action that meets our budgeting expectations and reaches its audience through publicities made on social media. I aim to bring over my past experience and work to become a valuable team member.
