Candidates

Ryoma Okabe

Hi Guild members! I am Ryoma Okabe running for a First Year Representative. I am interested in the Events and Outreach division because I am confident that it would be where I can make the greatest contribution maximising my current skills.

As a First Year Representative, I hope to strengthen and expand our connections with world-leading entrepreneurs and firms. Particularly, I believe we can capitalise more on UCL students’ diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds to reach out to non-English native firms. Doing so would not just enrich our network but will expand opportunities to invite high-level representatives more frequently, as well as support the treasury with increased opportunities to find new sponsors.

I have a rich experience of being organisers of events, for instance, the Producer of my high school’s Graduation Ceremony. I divided my seniors into three main units: performances, memory-lane and exhibition, each focusing on the core elements of the Ceremony. By having several meetings per week, I was able to coordinate everything, time-managing well to plan everything in a month. Additionally, since we were never sure if we could physically invite our parents due to covid, I negotiated with the school and the parents’ union so that it could be streamed online.

Thank you so much for reading my manifesto and I look forward to contributing to the Guild at a higher level.

Shagun Shrivastava
Nurul Kamal

Dear members of the UCL Guild Society,

I am excited to present myself as a candidate for the first-year representative position. As a student eager to get involved in university life, I believe I can bring energy and a fresh perspective to the role.

With my strong communication and organizational skills, I am confident that I can effectively represent the needs and interests of first-year students within the society.

I believe that my dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to listen and collaborate make me the ideal candidate for this role. If elected, I will work tirelessly to ensure that all first-year students feel supported and connected within the society.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and make a positive impact as your first-year representative.

Jucheng Hu

Hello everybody! Hope you are well.

I have been involved in many Guild events since last year, such as Macquarie's networking afternoon tea event, all of which have impressed me and provided me with solid help in my career planning. I am very grateful to Guild and all its members for their contribution and now hope to contribute back.

By being elected as a first year representative, I hope to become part of the Guild family and create more opportunities for all students interested in the finance field and help more students like me.

Thanks so much for reading and I would really appreciate it if you could vote for me.

Best regards,

Jucheng Hu

James Mao

I am eager to apply for the First Year Representative position within the Guild Society because I am passionate about helping others and facilitating opportunities for growth and success. As a freshman, I understand the challenges and obstacles that come with navigating the job market and starting one's career journey. I believe that being a part of the Guild Society will not only benefit me, but also my fellow first-year students. Through this role, I hope to use my experience and skills to provide resources, guidance, and support to my peers, ensuring that they make the most out of their time in college and are equipped with the tools to succeed in their future careers.

In addition, I am highly organized, communicative and have a strong attention to detail. These skills will enable me to effectively plan and execute events and workshops that will enhance the members' professional development. I also have a strong network of contacts and am eager to use my connections to bring in industry experts to speak to the group and provide valuable insights.

Lin Jiang

As a first-year Social&Data Science and a challenge-driven student, I always have had a great passion for exploring the diverse things in the business world, and the dynamics of maintaining a high level of care are the qualities that will always make me a learner in progress.

Combined with my previous business school background, I have cultivated a strong analytical mindset across diverse aspects of academic backgrounds with quantitative methods, which means in the teamwork situation of brainstorming, I can always bring these perspectives to the team.

With the mutual support of the Alliance, UCL Guild is a vibrant landscape of possibilities that offers the most extensive career advisories and professional events in London. As a member, I attended all the first-year eligible Guild events. To mention some, I met elite UCL alumni from Goldman Sachs, BCG...; I visited their offices and talked with professionals and HRs from Macquarie and Bank of America through Guild Sponsor Events… These enabled me to have profound talks with executives of UCL Guild and maintain amicable relationships with them.

In past experiences, I was involved in several professional internship positions, created a band as a co-founder and vocalist, and sent over 500 emails to communicate. So I believe I have the right properties to be FYR, to gain more exposure to the sophisticated team, learn more about how societies/top-tier firms operate, think through their growth, and assist them in such a process.

Ahaan Bhandari

I'm a team player who is highly social, and values networking and maintaining relationships. I see myself taking advantage of this skill as a First Year Representative by coordinating with different projects.

Interning at a local financial brokerage firm gave me real-time experience working in a high-pressure environment. Working on live deals, creating pitches, and learning new complex tools intrigued me the most.

Working in the United Nations Hub has given me the ability to go beyond my comfort zone and take up challenges while working on innovative ideas to improve client projects. I’ve honed my communication and oratory skills owing to the past 5 years I’ve spent performing in plays and drama.

Yi Lin Li

Hi everyone! I am excited to run for the First Year Representative position at UCL Guild Society.

I have a passion for not just the financial industry but also for sharing this with my peers and making a positive impact on the society. Being a First Year Representative offers the perfect place for me to contribute innovative ideas to improve student experience, by hosting a range of insightful events that can prepare the members for the jobs market once they graduate, from organising networking opportunities to inviting external speakers in.

My strong interpersonal and leadership skills would make me adequate as a First Year Representative who is able to listen to students' needs and interests, subsequently offering exclusive opportunities for all members to benefit from.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this!

Lottie Williamson

Hi everybody! I'm an Economics student who is interested in becoming a First Year Representative for UCL Guild.

I'm eager to share opportunities with others and my aim is to involve even more students with the Guild, strengthening our positive impact on UCL. Collaborating with the Guild's 5 societies, I want to expand internal outreach to enhance involvement with students who feel that the world of business and finance is not traditionally for them. I enjoyed being a mentor in school and will continue working to establish an inclusive atmosphere to give every student the chance to have the best career support possible.

In particular, I'm keen to capitalise on the Guild's wide range of partnerships to ensure that every student at UCL can find an opportunity that matches their personal career goals, through promoting an accessible range of networking events and skills workshops. Having successfully established a catering partnership between two firms during my gap year, I'm eager to form relationships with exciting new sponsors, such as fintech firms, to empower students exploring career opportunities even further. I am committed to excellence and will dedicate myself to expanding the Guild's network of driven students even further.

Thank you for reading!
