Music Society (RUMS): Education Officer

Hi, my name is Daniel and I’m a 4th Year Medical Student! Having worked as Sexpression UCL Training Officer previously, I have experience embarking on ambitious educational projects  - particularly for medical students!

If elected, I would try to deliver the following:

• Setting up an open-access guide to clinical years – a small guide to each rotation/ specialty that’s easily accessible and full of practical advice for each specialty.
• More Clinical Year Tutorials (whilst retaining the same level of preclinical education) – this would allow both 5th Year Students and Final Year Students to recap their knowledge, and gain more teaching experience.
• Mock OSCEs/ OCAPEs (or at least forming the basis of a series of stations) – a big project, but setting up a team of OSCE/ OCAPE Writers who will get certificates for their job - since medical students love certificates!
• (Speaking of certificates) Career/ Existential Dread Support – I’m hoping to set up talks/ guides as to what happens post-medical school, what the application process looks like, what Specialised Foundation Programme actually is, and how to deal with the existential dread of trying to get a training job in a specialty you’d like to do.
• Contacting RUMS Music Alumni for talks and teaching  - if said Alumni are willing, giving opportunities to talk about their experiences as a Foundation Year doctor and giving more opportunities to teach to build their portfolios (see above.)

Hi, I’m Daivi and I would like to be the RUMS Music Education Officer this year!

I have loved being involved in teaching whether that be as a GCSE science tutor, Maths mentor, Biomedical Society prefect at school or community instructor for Save a Baby’s Life volunteering project.

RUMS Music’s tutorials are brilliant! They are essential for my understanding. The RUMS Music community has such a supportive atmosphere and everyone is so keen to impart advice and wisdom and I would love for more people to benefit.

If elected, I would like to build on the amazing work done thus far including holding regular tutorials and updating the survival guides. I would also like to hold a iBSc education event as well as ‘how to adjust to medical school’ tutorials including “Top Tips for starting Year X” events, study skills sessions and maybe a campus tour for Year 1s.

To reduce a tutor's workload, I propose creating template presentations for each preclinical module and encouraging previous tutors to share their presentations, thereby creating a tutorial library. I would also like to look into holding a mOCAPE and increasing the number of tutorials for clinical years. I am always open to any suggestions/advice!

I believe I am well organised and resilient, being on the RUMS Review committee as Journalism lead and RUMS Music committee as Publicity Officer this year. I am passionate about RUMS Music and I would love to continue to give back to this community as your Education Officer.

I'm standing for this position first and foremost because I love RUMS Music! It has certainly been a big part of my UCL life so far and I absolutely look forward to every rehearsal and performance we have. I would hence love to be part of the committee to pay it forward and let every single member - existing and future - to have just as much enjoyment and fun as I had.

I firmly believe that we as a society are not just here for music, but also to be a family that we can all rely on and help each other. Like it or not, as a medical student, education and learning will probably be a huge part in our life here, so I will strive to uphold and develop a culture of teaching and learning within the society! Tutorials and workshops for clinical and pre-clinical teaching should definitely continue, and I would like to create a forum or discussion platform where anyone can ask questions which we can either answer, or link up with someone to answer.
