As the Events Director for the Oncology sub-committee, I co-ordinated the launch of the “Cancer Research in Spotlight” series in UCL Oncology Society, bringing the sub-committee together as well liaising with leading academics to deliver these talks. I also collaborated with UCL Pathology Society to set-up a charity social event, the Chinese New Year Quiz night, raising over £120 for Maggie's Cancer Charity.

Having been the Workshop Co-ordinator for the MedSoc Conference Sub-Committee, I have a lot of experience in working with members across MedSoc in delivering events, which has given me a better understanding of how the society operates. Furthermore, I was responsible for working as part of the workshop team to organise workshops that would captivate our audience and allow them to delve into the theme of the conference in greater depth.

As Secretary, I will

  • Create a central MedSoc Calendar, which members can access to view all events across the different sub-committees to make it easier for members to plan and attend all the various events we plan across the year

  • Continue with the weekly emails, where members are alerted to new opportunities and events provided by us, as well as a summary of any fascinating updates of the week by our various sub-committees

  • Assist with collaboration between sub-committees for more joint events

Hi everyone, I’m Dev and I would love to be your secretary this year!

I have greatly benefitted from MedSoc events and tutorials over the past 2 years and know none of that could be possible without the hard work and dedication of MedSoc committee members behind-the-scenes, and hopefully, I can play a small role in making sure our MedSoc continues to deliver for current and future UCLMS students.

From being logistics coordinator for the flagship MedSoc conference and an academic rep for the past 2 years, I feel I am well equipped to tackle our administrative challenges and support our other committee members through this role.

As your MedSoc Secretary, I would:

  • Expand engagement with MedSoc members (preclinical and clinical alike) to foster a sense of community and encourage greater participation
  • Streamline communication between MedSoc subcommittees and offer assistance from committee for event planning, conferences or shadowing schemes
  • Maintain the MedSoc newsletter to highlight opportunities and introduce new sections: an insight to MedSoc behind-the-scenes, intriguing current research/medical news, wellness or reflective section and perhaps stories from MedSoc Alumni
  • Collaborate with RUMS Academic VPs to collate bulletin items and revitalise the RUMS opportunity bank
  • Work closely with the Education Chairs to improve and better promote MedSoc tutorials

Together, let’s make MedSoc a place where academic curiosity meets innovation, collaboration and opportunity :)
