I’m running for this position because I believe I’m best placed to expand student engagement in Psychiatry at UCL. Going into my final year I have accumulated a huge amount of experience, knowledge, and contacts which I wish to utilise to achieve this. I have vast experience with senior leadership positions both within the Psychiatry subcommittee as Treasurer last year and outside of Med Soc having been RUMS Netball President this year. I have so many ideas and avenues which I am determined to chase. Pursuing Psychiatry has been my passion even before university, so I have also been involved with Psychiatry committees and events at other medical schools. I want to strengthen ties with them as well as the Royal College of Psychiatrists and as I have had plenty of communication beforehand, I am very much able to facilitate this. Not only do I want to strengthen extra-curricular and portfolio building opportunities for everyone, but I want to influence and bring attention to gaps and problems that currently exist in the Psychiatry curriculum we have here. I’ve also been in contact with psychiatrists abroad and I’d be very interested in exploring what we can learn from care in other countries. Another angle that I think is important to target is to increase the presence of the Psychiatry branch of Med Soc both online with social media and through newsletters and word of mouth. I’m incredibly passionate about Psychiatry and I’d love the opportunity to share that with everyone!
