Having been the Workshop Co-ordinator for the MedSoc Conference Sub-Committee as well as the Events Director for the Oncology Sub-Committee, I have a lot of experience in planning and organising small group teaching activities. With the Conference sub-committee, I was responsible for organising workshop events that would captivate our audience and allow them to delve into the theme of the conference in greater depth. I also launched the “Cancer Research in Spotlight” series with UCL Oncology Society, where we held talks every month by leading academics, giving our audience the ability to explore diversity of research ongoing in oncology and how they can be applied in a clinical context.

As Pre-Clinical Education Chair, I will:

  • Continue to organise the high-quality PACS tutorials which have been a keystone in supplementing the education for pre-clinical students over the years. I plan to further this by involving foundation year doctors in the process to provide a more clinical insight into the tutorial topics, to make them more relevant to the new CPSA and Case of the Year style of examinations
  • Use latest technological advances in augmented reality (AR) to supplement the teaching to help students visualise anatomical structures
  • Prioritise student feedback and actively seek their input. Regular surveys and open forums will enable us to continuously improve the quality of teaching, address any concerns, and tailor the curriculum to meet the evolving needs of the students

Hi guys, I’m Afrin and I would love to be your next Pre-Clinical Education Chair!

I have found the tutorials run by MedSoc an invaluable revision tool and I am eager to help with their organisation and ensure that the tutorials that we run are tailored to your needs!

Having been an Academic Rep during both of my preclinical years, I am passionate about harnessing feedback to understand which parts of the course students find more challenging and am keen to shape tutorials around these.

I have held several committee roles over the past 2 years in academia, social media and conference-running, and I now have a solid understanding of the organisation behind a committee which will help me arrange more fun and useful tutorials with our new team next year!

These are just some of my ideas for the upcoming year:

- Develop discussion-based revision sessions to practise CPSA skills earlier in the year for second years

- Liaise with the RUMS Academics team to understand what students are finding difficult

- Collect feedback throughout the year about topics that students find more challenging, to help develop tutorials for following years

- Work with the MedSoc Secretary to create a comprehensive timetable of which tutorials are being run by the different subcommittees

Thank you for your time and I hope you will vote for me :)
