I am a First Year BA Undergraduate History Student. I am currently a member of 25 societies and have studied what makes a society good. My goal over the coming year would be to make UCL Law for All Society better than UCL Law Society.
(1) Firstly, the society should have even closer affiliations with major London Law Firms. The prestige and location of UCL must be used to the society's advantage.
(2) Moreover, it would be hugely beneficial for UCL LFA to collaborate with other societies.
a) Related societies like UCL Pro-Bono to do more law specific events.
b) Non-law societies like UCL debate or UCL Labour for debating and speaking events.
c) Other university's Law and Non-law societies, like Kings' Law Society or the the Oxford Union to make more events for LFA members.
This will not only explode members' networks, but also selling tickets externally will allow the society to fund more and bigger events.
(3) The society can also become more active. More balls, mooting competitions and dinners would improve networking and debating skills. I would love to get high profile lawyers speaking, and possibly debating, for LFA society.
The society could help even more with applications– such as providing a "Watson Glasier bootcamp".
The social media (especially Linkedin) must become more active and the website must be updated
In sum, LFA society is great, but it has a huge potential for growth, shown by a few of the ideas which I have included above.
