Hiking Club: Safety & Equipment Officer

Hello there! I’m Surendra, and I’m about to finish my first year studying Geology.

I've recently been back from two consecutive field trips to Cornwall and Dorset for my degree programme, and it's helped me better appreciate the arrangements that my subject department made to ensure student safety. I thoroughly enjoyed hiking throughout the year and got to see awesome sights at Hastings, Epping Forest, and more, and really do want to give back to the club.

Ensuring student safety is a must, so I will definitely see to make sure that protocols are taken before and during the trip. This will involve working with other members of the club and readily connecting with the membership also, and my aims include:

• Keeping the leader-to-hiker ratio appropriate
• Revising and continuing to implement the 1-10 difficulty system for all hikes next year
• Ensuring the paths taken are safe and continuing to post our journey route before the hike
• Continuing the red hat system
• Being readily available for any queries on Discord
• Being able to notify me personally (via WhatsApp) in case of missing train/lateness etc., and to be able to receive our live location during the hike
