Healthcare Management and Politics Society: Women in HeMP Lead

I initially become interested in HeMP when I realised that many of those making the big decisions about the NHS are not doctors and have not stepped foot into a busy hospital ward. This makes it so much easier for these individuals to make cuts and changes with repercussions that they were not able to perceive to begin with. As a result, I researched more about the board of directors of UCL hospitals and was disappointed to see the lack of women and BME members. 

I think pathways into HeMP are very poorly publicised and opportunities within this field are frequently deemed as unachievable until you reach a consultant level. I would hope to dispell these myths and also increase accessibility to information regarding these career paths. 

I hope to organise a women in HeMP workshop-an interactive session where female medical students share their fears surrounding leadership roles with a senior facilitator and also a mentoring programme for students interesting in HeMP.
