Rania-Iman Virjee

Hi, my name is Rania Iman, an MSc Clinical Neuroscience student, and I am running to be your next Welfare Officer!

I have always admired the work of the UCL FoMSF. I have previously collaborated with the society and was this year its Vice President and Welfare Officer. I have always had a deep compassion for the underprivileged and those suffering in our society, whether close to home, or across the globe. As the previous UCL string orchestra manager, I organised a Christmas fundraising concert for the World Without Tuberculosis charity in which UCL FoMSF collaborated with us to raise awareness and funds. I would like to build on these initiatives through ensuring the wellbeing of the society members and particularly mental health in these challenging times. Through my previous leadership role as String Orchestra manager, I have gained experience in creating and fostering an inclusive environment where students can flourish and integrate fully into student life. I have developed interpersonal and effective communication skills, over my undergraduate years at UCL and found it deeply fulfilling to have contributed to student wellbeing. I was able to carry this forward this year within the FoMSF society through fundraising and wellbeing activities. I will endeavour to create volunteering opportunities for society members; as well as being a strong CV point, volunteering contributes greatly to wellbeing as we always get more from giving than from receiving.
