Having completed 2 of my uni years as avid member of FilmSoc – in one of which I was on committee as Documentary Producer – I have used most of our equipment across various projects, and have developed a solid understanding of the way our society functions. I appreciate the cruciality of keeping our unmatched resources organised, well-kept and accessible. I thus hope to play my part in ensuring the highest possible standards of service for our members to fully utilise the opportunities that FlimSoc can offer. Here are some of my pledges:

Studio

  • A more transparent booking system so that members can immediately see the vacant slots that are available for booking on the calendar.
  • 3 strike rule for last minute cancellations to ensure maximum utilisation of the space.
  • Regular clean & check ups to ensure that the space is well-kept throughout the academic year.

Equipment

  • Improvement to current storage space for better organisation of equipment, including clearer compartmentalisation and labelling within shelves
  • More regular tutorials, and (depending on demand) uploading tutorial videos on the fundamentals of using key equipment to our YouTube channel, for members to refer to at their convenience
  • Close collaboration with senior committee to facilitate timely repairs & new demands for equipment

IT

  • I will be interning with a technician for at least 2 weeks in the summer, which will give me the insights to help ensure the upkeep of our server and website
Mara Dinu

Hello everyone, I'm Mara - the current archive officer. I'd love to be part of the committee next year as well, since I already know how things work and I think I would manage to help around with the studio, equipment and IT issues.

I am familiar with a part of the equipment we have at the studio, since I used the JVC, Black Magic and some of the mics on multiple occasions for livestream or recordings of different events. I am very passionate about the technical side of film and I would love to learn more about it! I'm also used to working with DSLRs since I've been into photography for a while, so I know the basic principles of lenses, filters, lights and other accessories.

I've also helped renovating the studio when we put up the acoustic foam in the foley room. I've been around people who work in the sound engineering and music industry, like family members, and I have recorded tracks myself so I have some knowledge about recordings and the best deals in terms of equipment and sound tools. I'd love to be one of your next SEIMs because we all love high quality gear! :)

Harry Traherne

I LOVE GEAR! Film gear to be more precise. As a Studio Equipment and IT Manager (SEIM) I would work hard to learn how all of the FilmSoc’s amazing equipment works and use this knowledge to provide first class training to anyone in need. I would dedicate my time to helping the many members of the society achieving their creative ambitions.

With so many talented members, and such high-quality equipment in the studio, it is also imperative that the process for taking out equipment is straightforward and easy to understand. I would work hard with the other SEIM’s to make this system as frictionless as possible and maximise the number of students using both the studio and equipment.

For many, including myself, it is sometimes a mystery knowing exactly what equipment is owned by the society. To help resolve this, I would also aim to host regular drop-in sessions for any production members who wish to come into the studio and explore/learn about the vast resources available.
