Gear is critical to a climbing society. You never feel cooler than when you're walking around with full gear loops.

Previously we've had a tradition of the old gear sec becoming the ass gear sec to lend an experienced hand. As a member of the 2022-23 committee, and active member of the club, I feel I would be able to offer a useful experienced outlook on how things are done, and how they could be done better.

I'm not the most knowledgeable gear-head in the world but I can tell nuts from bolts, and the rest l'll leave up to Seb!

If I'm elected l'II teach you how to do a pretty stopper knot.

Charlie Barber

I'm running for the position of assistant gear sec and want to give a few words as to why I'm running.

I'm still somewhat new to climbing, having only picked up sport climbing in the last month or so on the Costa Blanca trip. Throughout the trip I was very eager to learn and kept asking people how different gear works or how to use it properly. Also, as someone starting out I know the importance of trusting that you can trust that your gear is safe and functional. I want to help maintain all gear and be involved with acquiring any new gear.

Additionally, I'd like to help everyone know what gear they have access to and promote borrowing from our great gear cupboard - whether this be to go on your own trips or just to borrow rope at The Castle.

Thanks for considering me as assistant gear sec. I'd love to be a part of the committee and give back to the society I've really benefitted from this year.

Robert Waite

Hi, I’m Rob!

I’ve been climbing for over 7 years and would like to put myself forward for assistant gear sec, and believe I’m fit for the job.

I’ll be a third-year maths student, I believe my experience with numbers will have taught me the necessary skills to change the rope codes.

I also have an impeccable track record with gear maintenance - having only ripped one harness to date from falling (I promise it wasn’t my fault).

My organisational skills are second to none; since moving to London I’ve mastered the art of cramming my worldly possessions into a tiny room, which will be extremely useful for the gear cupboard.

In all seriousness, I would love to become more involved with the club and hope that you would trust me with the club’s gear.
