Sonia Khan

I am standing for President of UCL Voices for Children because I care deeply about children’s rights, protection, and the need to turn awareness into impactful actions. I would lead the society with care, purpose, and ambition to turn student concern into impactful action for local and global issues affecting children today.

As a Global Humanitarian Studies student at UCL, I have studied global issues  in depth such as crisis response, global health, displacement, and inequality, all of which are closely connected to children’s rights. I have completed training in safeguarding children with Harvard University, obtaining certification in Child Protection: Children's Rights in Theory and Practice. These experiences, along with many others, have made children's rights feel like a responsibility to me, instead of just another academic interest.

As President, I would bring strong communication and organisational skills to the society. At UCL, I have worked as a Student Storyteller, MAPS Digital Student Ambassador, and Publications and Volunteering Officer for the DRRH Society, where I have helped make complex issues more accessible to student audiences. I would use the skills I've learned from these roles to build a more visible and active society through speaker events, campaigns, collaborations, fundraising initiatives, volunteering opportunities, and accessible content on children’s rights.

Thank you!
