Pia Jolly

Hi everyone! I’m Pia, a first-year Astrophysics student, and I’m pleased to be running for Welfare Officer for Physics Society.

As someone who understands how overwhelming university can feel at times, I’d love the opportunity to help ensure the society remains a welcoming, supportive and inclusive space for everyone. I really value the sense of community within Physics Society, and I’d want all members to feel comfortable, listened to and able to enjoy being part of it.

If elected, I would aim to be approachable and supportive, helping members feel able to raise any concerns or suggestions they may have. I’d also work closely with the rest of the committee to ensure events and activities are enjoyable and inclusive.

I think welfare is also about helping people feel connected and supported within the society, so I’d encourage opportunities for members to get to know one another during Freshers’ Week as well as throughout the academic year.

As someone who was an unsure fresher not long ago, I know how important a friendly and supportive environment can be. I would also regularly seek feedback from members to ensure the society continues to feel welcoming, enjoyable and supportive for everyone.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll consider me for Physics Society's next Welfare Officer!
