Aaliyah Seedat

Hi everyone! I’m Aaliyah and I’m excited to run for the position of GP Chair.

As the first point of contact in healthcare, GPs have a unique responsibility to shape a patient’s journey from the very first consultation. I’m drawn to general practice because of the impact those early interactions can have on long-term patient care. Despite this, GP is often stereotyped as a less exciting specialty, and I’m passionate about challenging these misconceptions and showcasing the huge breadth of opportunities within the career.

Working on committee this year has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at medical school. From running mock OSCEs to bringing people together through events like our bake sale, I’ve loved helping build a community while making GP more visible and exciting for students. Our committee has also worked with faculty, the SU and MedSoc to help establish GP Soc officially, and I am eager to continue building on this momentum as your GP Chair next year.

My aims include:

  1. Continuing & expanding mock OSCEs.
  2. GP panels exploring portfolio careers, GPs with Special Interests, and medical education.
  3. Conferences & networking events with other universities.
  4. More revision resources, including SBAs and VSAs.
  5. Bake sales for charity.
  6. Challenging stereotypes around GP - “Paracetamol doctors”? 😤

I’d love the opportunity to continue showing how dynamic and impactful general practice is and would be honoured to have your vote.

Thank you!
