Deng Warng Kong

As the first in my family to study in the UK, I expected to struggle finding my footing, especially socially. That changed at the MSOC pre-departure camp, and especially with the family system. The people I met through it have become my core friend group, the ones I share my personal struggles with and also have spontaneous cooking nights with. And every MSOC event I attended after that, from Mnight to the Gala Dinner, only deepened that sense of belonging. What felt like a foreign place became home, and that was entirely because of MSOC.

That experience is why I'm running. I want to give back to the society by making sure the financial side of MSOC is run well enough that those experiences keep happening for everyone who comes after me.

As your treasurer, I will push for more frequent, quality events at affordable prices by working with the CR team to attract more sponsors as well as optimising budget spending with event directors so that ambitious events are financially viable and introduce a dedicated family system budget so that every new member gets the same sense of belonging that MSOC gave me.

As a first-year economics student with an incoming corporate finance internship and a genuine passion for finance, I have the analytical foundation to manage MSOC's finances with care and think critically about how we can do more with what we have.
