Law for All Society: Treasurer

I’ll be sure to push for grants and sponsorships to strengthen relationships between the society and future employers, hopefully not only maintaining the sustainability of the society’s running but also creating pathways for our members’ graduate ambitions!!

As previous treasurer for my department’s society last year, I successfully applied for grants up to £1,400 on behalf of the committee. I hope to bring this competitive financing skills to LfA  o(^▽^)o

Dear voters, 

As a second-year Politics & IR student aiming for a career in law, finance and business, Law for All sits at the intersection of everything I'm working towards.

What I bring → Marketing Officer of UCL Voices for Children — campaigns, sponsor coordination, working within budgets → Events Coordinator, UCL Africa & West Asia Futures — costing events, negotiating venues, tracking spend → A finance-driven mindset shaped by my target career in law

What I'd do as Treasurer → Transparent termly budgets shared openly with the committee → Sponsorship outreach to commercial firms, leveraging my network across two other societies → Cost-conscious planning so funds stretch further across pro bono work and socials → A clean handover system so next year's treasurer starts strong

Why a non-law student? Many of the students Law for All exists to inspire into law are non-law students like me. I know what looking in from the outside feels like and I'll make sure our finances reflect that audience too.

Hi everyone, I'm Rahul, a first year Economics and Statistics student and I'd love to be considered for the Treasurer role at Law for All.
Law for All helped demystify breaking into the legal profession from a non-law background and directly inspired me to participate in first year schemes at Freshfields and Osborne Clarke. As such I feel a strong personal connection to what the society stands for.

As Treasurer I want to go beyond keeping the books in order:
○ Careful budgeting and transparent financial management
○ Proactively securing sponsorships from law firms that align with Law for All's mission, bringing both funding and opportunities for members
○ Driving membership growth with a strong presence at Freshers' Fair, particularly targeting students from non-law backgrounds who might not have considered a legal career yet
○ Organised tracking of income, expenses and funding opportunities to strengthen long term financial sustainability

Hi everyone! I'm Krithi, a first-year History student, and I'm running to be Law For All's Treasurer.

LFA already does a great job of creating opportunities for its members and I want to help it do even more. If elected, I would ensure the society's finances are managed responsibly and efficiently so we can continue expanding what we offer, whether that means more firm collaborations, more socials, or more application support.

Through organising my secondary school's MUN conference, I gained experience with budgeting, logistics, sponsorship procurement,  and working collaboratively to ensure events ran smoothly. I further developed these skills volunteering with the Terre Des Hommes charity, where I planned and coordinated community fundraising events and supported day-to-day operations. And yes, despite being a History student I do have strong quantitative skills! I'm even taking stats and computing interdepartmental modules :0

Most importantly, I genuinely care about this society. Having attended events and seen first-hand the value LFA brings to non-law students navigating legal applications, I would love the opportunity to support that from within the committee.

Hi! I’m Mikael, a first-year History student at UCL.

I joined Law for All because I wanted to find my own route into law, and the society has already shown me what that can look like. The bowling social with HSF Kramer, the Freshfields legal tech workshop with the Legal Tech Society, and the commercial law and commercial awareness sessions each showed me something I wouldn't have come across on my own.

I’ve never seen my degree as a barrier. If anything, it’s made me think differently about law, and I want to help LfA reach the students who haven't found it yet.

As Treasurer, I’d make sure every event has a budget signed off before it goes ahead. I'd also keep finances clearly reported to the committee. Having completed first-year schemes at HSF Kramer and Hogan Lovells, and work experience at Sullivan & Cromwell, I understand how firms approach society partnerships, and I’d use that to secure sponsorship.

I’d also want to help fund a broader programme: more panel events and insight days at chambers, and events covering human rights, sports, and media law alongside commercial work, so that whatever route a student is considering, there’s something here for them. I have experience engaging with Rare Recruitment, SEO London, and Aspiring Solicitors, and I’d look to build on those connections for the society's benefit.

I want to give back to a society that has already given me a lot this year.

I genuinely care about this society and want to make sure it has the foundations to keep growing. Through completing a insight scheme at White & Case, and starting a internship at GSK this summer, I have picked up a real sense of how risk and financial accountability work in practice. I also ran my own blog from scratch on no budget, which taught me quickly how to be resourceful with money. As treasurer I would keep finances clear, organised, and stress-free for the committee, so everyone else can focus on what they actually enjoy doing.

Hi everyone :) my name is Marcus and a first-year Classics student. Having spent a gap year working in the legal industry, I am well-immersed within the law landscape, applications, etc. I have attended many Law4All events and they have been some of the highlights of my time at UCL and I'd be honoured to be your treasurer. As a fellow non-law student, I am able to share my experiences to help others in their journey.

I have been successful for many events in this year's application cycle, including Macfarlanes, Ropes, Links, and A&O Shearman. I also have worked a large host of jobs over the years from paralegal to barista work, including working jobs whilst studying for GCSEs. I can bring my ability to juggle multiple responsibilities to help the society run smoothly.

My paralegal experience demonstrates my suitability. I managed books, coordinated and managed budgets, liaised with third-parties for banking matters, and managed solicitors' accounts. To this end, I believe I am suited to being your treasurer over others.

My main goal as treasurer would be to ensure members maximise their membership value by helping to coordinate various accessible events for people at every stage of the application cycle and journey into corporate law.

By managing budgets efficiently with attention to detail, I hope to strengthen Law4All in its accessibility to grow the society and broaden what makes it something I am proud of be a part of.

A key factor behind my decision to stand for the position of Treasurer at the UCL Law For All Society, in addition to my genuine interest in the field of law, is my desire to contribute to this community that has played a central role in my university experience so far. Having engaged with numerous Law For All events this academic year, especially insight days at firms, I value how insightful and career-oriented these events are. As Treasurer, I would use my strong organisational, time-management, and financial literacy skills to ensure that these high-quality events and opportunities continue to run smoothly, and our society remains financially sustainable. However, this role is about more than just being fiscally responsible: an effective Treasurer works in tandem with other society and committee members to direct the organisation towards its ambitions. Rather than being purely preventative, this role has a proactive element as well, which I would be thrilled and prepared to undertake. 

Another reason why I am interested in this position is that I am keen to develop my understanding of financial management. I believe that serving as Treasurer for this society would be an excellent hands-on opportunity to do so. Ultimately, both personal and community-based factors underpin my decision to stand for this role, and I look forward to playing my part in driving the growth of UCL Law For All Society.

As the Editor of UCL Law for All Blog this year, I have seen firsthand the potential this society has in making legal careers accessible to those of non-LLB backgrounds. A variety of efforts, such as insight days in firms, applications workshops and the commercial awareness newsletters have all aided me and others in navigating the complex world of legal work. I would now like to further contribute to the society in the role of treasurer.

As treasurer, I will be able to contribute to the operational side of UCL Law for All, having experience managing documents and finances during an internship as a legal assistant. Beyond operations, I would like to extend the reach of the society by liaising with guests from spheres tangential, but not necessarily within the remit, of traditional commercial law, allowing members to gain practical experience as a springboard into future career ambitions.
