Hello! I am McKayla, a first-year English BA student, and I would love to be an editor for Green & Gilded. In the past, I have written articles for Capture the Flag, Comforting Cuisines, and For Pillar and For Worse. As editor and member of the G&G team, my proposals are to:

  • Become a part of the workshops: It goes without saying that many English students want to pursue a career in journalism and/or writing. While there are, of course, many opportunities outside the department, I think it would be valuable for G&G to also play a role in helping these publishing careers. Poems, short stories, essays, and other products from these workshops can be published in the magazines if the participants wish. This is a fantastic way to share writings and increase readership.
  • Be more accessible: While excerpts have been published on Instagram stories in the past, it would be ideal for snippets to be on the announcement posts themselves to boost the writers of each issue. Additionally, the website is sometimes difficult to navigate when trying to find a specific issue - reordering it to be in reverse chronology so that the newest issues are at the top would make it easier to read.
  • Encourage topic suggestions: By having people submit magazine topics on either Instagram or a separate form, people can write and read about the specific things they are interested in.

I've really enjoyed writing for G&G this year, and I look forward to continuing to do so regardless of the result :)
