Vote Mehmet for President.
Hello everyone, I'm Mehmet Üşümez, your current First-Year Rep of Academic Events, running to bring out the full potential of The Economists' Society.
Serving in this year's committee gave me a good grasp of the current system, as well as our strengths and shortcomings.
Now, I am ready to step up and lead us into our best year yet.
My vision is built on three main pillars:
Two-Tier Executive Structure: To deliver bigger events, we need more power. Under my presidency, I will introduce a new first-year executive role to handle the groundwork and logistics. This will allow second-year executives to step up as Team Leads, gaining valuable management experience, while doubling our capacity. By doing so, we will have the manpower to execute projects from Day 1.
Global Ambition: We're the biggest departmental society at UCL. Why settle when we have the reputation and the new workforce? I will launch an extensive outreach campaign across the society starting in Term 1, targeting global heavyweights such as Nobel Laureates. It is a bold goal, but with a larger and dedicated team under my leadership, we will aim higher.
Bridging the Gap with Finance: We're The Economists' Society, but finance remains key for many of us. I will increase finance oriented events by introducing workshops, industry breakdowns and more high-profile speakers, while protecting our unique academic identity.
I have the experience, drive and integrity to execute.
Vote Mehmet for President.
Hi there!
I think you should consider me for Presidency of EconSoc.
My main objective is to support students by introducing research projects, diverse career talks, peer mentoring & expanded leadership positions.
- EconSoc Research Wing: Didn't get that Spring Week or Summer Internship you wanted? No problem!
- I am hoping to set up research teams. In these teams, you can build those technical skills which employers love - use machine learning algorithms, construct DCFs, 3 statement models and more! These technical projects SCREAM career-readiness!
- And the best part? INCLUSIVITY. No CVs, no interviews, no cover letters to join!
- Variety of career talks and panel sessions, both in popular fields like finance but also in more niche careers.
- I'll expand the finance offerings by hosting talks, technical workshops, and panel sessions to support students with spring weeks, summer internships and grad schemes.
- I also want to organise at least 5-10 talks and panel sessions on careers ranging from finance, to non-profit work, entrepreneurship, academia and more.
- Peer Mentoring to support with economics lecture material, especially in quantitative modules.
- You'll get matched with older students with whom you can discuss problems with.
- This system will help students who need guidance.
- Expanded leadership positions, with clear KPIs and responsibilities, beyond a generic '2-tier system.'.
- I aim to give targeted duties to leaders with clear, quantifiable key performance indicators (KPIs).
