I am standing for Treasurer because I want to help turn good ideas into events that members feel excited to be part of. A society can only run well when its budget is accurate, and its committee knows what is available. I understand that the Treasurer is the key contact for financial matters. This means keeping accounts up to date, checking claims, supporting funding applications and ensuring money is used responsibly. I would take this seriously and keep the process clear for the whole committee and for members. As Communications Lead for Anthroshow 2026, I have seen how much planning goes into student events. I have also contributed to funding applications, which has taught me how to explain costs clearly and think carefully about how resources should be used. My broader experience in public contributor roles has also helped me work with diverse people, listen carefully and stay accountable when entrusted with responsibility. I would also think about sustainability in a practical way. That means making spending decisions that do not create problems later, considering low-waste options where possible and using member feedback to support events people actually want. As Treasurer, I would be organised, approachable, professional and transparent. I would work closely with the committee so that finances do not feel confusing or hidden. My aim would be simple: help Anthro Soc use its money well, support great ideas and give members a society worth being part of!
I am running for Treasurer as I enter my final year because I would love the opportunity to contribute more actively to the society and help support the events and community that make it so enjoyable.
I have experience handling finances and organisation in a range of settings. I have worked at large events where I was responsible for managing high volumes of transactions, processing payments, and handling bills accurately and efficiently. Alongside this, I have been involved in fundraising events throughout my education, which has helped me develop strong organisational and budgeting skills.
During my study abroad year, I also took business classes focused on accounting and finance, where I gained a deeper understanding of budgeting and financial planning. As part of these classes, I created my own startup project, which involved managing budgets, calculating costs, and fundraising to support the venture. These experiences strengthened both my financial skills and my ability to work collaboratively and responsibly under pressure.
I want to be Treasurer because I enjoy the behind-the-scenes work that helps events and societies run successfully. I would love to help ensure the Anthropology Society is well organised and properly funded so that its events, socials, and opportunities can continue to thrive for all members.
