As an Italian student, being part of the UCL Italian Society has meant so much more to me than just an extracurricular activity, it has been a way to feel at home, to build real connections with people who share my language and my culture. This is why I’m applying to be the Social Secretary of the UCL Italian Society. I believe this role is not just about organising events, but about building an inclusive and welcoming community, a home away from home.

Coming from Italy, I’ve always cherished the sense of belonging and warmth that defines our culture. I want to recreate that warmth and connection here at UCL, helping new students settle in and giving everyone a chance to connect, have fun and feel part of something meaningful.

I’m organised, sociable and full of ideas. I would love to bring fresh, creative ideas to our events calendar: from aperitivo nights, to film screenings, quiz nights. I’d love to include activities that go beyond the social, such as events with notable Italian guests, to inspire our members and strengthen our cultural ties. I want our events to reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Italian life, while also encouraging genuine friendships and lasting memories.

I believe the Italian Society can be a lively and unifying space not only for Italians, but for anyone curious about our beautiful culture. I’d love to contribute to the Italian Society, bring my passion, creativity, and enthusiasm to the team and make every member feel like they belong.

Sofia Riva

Having lived in Milan my entire life, I hold a strong connection to Italian culture and traditions, which I am eager to share and celebrate within our Italian community. It would be a true honor to serve as the Social Secretary of the Italian Society and contribute to creating a vibrant, welcoming, and engaging space for Italian students and anyone interested in our culture. I believe this role is not only about organising events, but also about fostering a sense of belonging and pride in our shared identity. Throughout high school, I was actively involved in planning and managing events such as university fairs and student gatherings. These experiences taught me how to work efficiently under pressure, coordinate with different stakeholders, and ensure that every detail, from logistics to atmosphere, helps make an event successful and enjoyable. I bring that same dedication and organisational skill to everything I do. If elected, I would be committed to curating a range of events that reflect the richness and diversity of Italian culture, from traditional celebrations and food tastings to networking evenings and cultural discussions. I am approachable, hardworking, and passionate about bringing people together, and I genuinely believe I can make a positive impact on our community. I hope to earn your support and the chance to help make the Italian Society a lively and unforgettable part of student life.
