International Relations Society: Welfare Officer

Hi! I’m Vanessa, running to be your welfare officer!

You might also see me running for Academic Events Director - that’s because I care deeply about both the events and the people that make a good society. This role is about something just as important as academic events: how we connect with each other and feel supported. Thus, my aim is simple: I want to make IR society a welcoming, inclusive and supportive space for everyone. 

Here’s what I’d focus on:

• Community first: Casual, inclusive socials that make it easier to meet people without the pressure of big, formal events - think tea & chats, potlucks and games nights, so you’ll always have a way to connect.
• Your voice matters: Regular check-ins and anonymous feedback forms for you to enter your thoughts, ideas and worries. I’ll keep our support resources clear and accessible, and work closely with our committee to ensure your voice leads real change. 
• Here for you: Sometimes you just need someone to talk to - and I want to be that person for you! I’m here to listen, support, and lend a hand however I can, because your wellbeing matters just as much as your CV.

Hiii Friendsss!!!

My name is Aleyna , I was born and raised in Berlin and I am studying Politics and International Relations here at UCL. I really want to become a more active part of the IR society and get to know more people, which is why I am nominating myself for the position of welfare officer. Here are some of my ideas...

1. Monthly Welfare Recommendations - Recommending science-backed activities for better mental health, to remind us all to take care ourselves, especially during stressful times!
2. Frequent Anonymous Feedback Forms - I want to give everyone the chance to express concerns or recommend improvements, to ensure you are happy with this community!
3. Social Events - I would like to coordinate with the director of social events to plan more get-togethers to create a stronger community and make socializing and finding like-minded friends more easily!
4. Resource Spreadsheet -  I will create a document available to all members, in which you can find different resources for accessing help at UCL, whether it is counseling, finding housing or managing finance, making it easier to find help for your specific needs!
5. Personal Communication - I will be available to address your worries or your struggles privately, just text me on WhatsApp!
