Hi everyone! I'm Arya, and I would love to be your Sanskaar officer next year.
As a practising Hindu who grew up Cornwall, it is safe to say I have struggled with feeling disconnected from my faith due to a lack of community, which is one of the parts of Hinduism I appreciate the most. I have been blessed to find this through UCL Hindu Society and its profound way of conveying Hindu values and teachings. Through continuation of the weekly Sanskaar sessions, I hope to reach a wider audience no matter what background. Having established and run a medic society at school, I have acquired organisational and time management skills which will be important in planning and delivering these sessions. My training in Bharatanatyam has equipped me with knowledge of Hindu mythology which I can also integrate in sessions, especially in creative ways such as collaborations with UCL Indian Dance Society for which I am on committee next year. Additionally, within the role of Sanskaar officer, I would love to bring new ideas. I find the focus on meditation within Hinduism to be particularly inspiring and hope to introduce this through regular sessions, yoga and temple visits. Events such as teaching days and retreats could be organised in partnership with other societies and universities, to expand our community even more.
Overall, Hindu society has been an integral part of my first year and I would be so grateful for the chance to give back and continue its wonderful legacy.
