Cancer Charities Alliance Society: Welfare Officer

I am very passionate about cancer research and therapy due to my academic interest and personal experience. I think cancer is one of the most traumatic experiences in life that the vast majority of people will face in some way. Because of this I would love to contribute to this society to help raise awareness and money for the relevant charities where possible.

Welfare is important to me due to my struggles with my own mental health throughout my life. Student welfare is especially important in a society like this, where many people who are passionate about cancer and would like to involve themselves may also be easily triggered by the topic. I have loved ones who struggle with health anxiety so this is something I am familiar with and feel in a good position to assist with. I consider myself an approachable person who could bring an open, non-judgemental space to this role and hope that you all would feel comfortable enough to talk to me if you ever need to, no matter how small or big you view the issue to be.

I would like to further develop my leadership skills and more generally I enjoy these types of roles as they can be very gratifying when you manage to help people. For instance, when I was in sixth form I was a prefect and enjoyed helping the others organise events as I knew it was important. I also work as a private tutor part-time, which I have greatly enjoyed, and involves many leadership skills, as I get to help someone who needs guidance.
