Rangina Taraki

Salam everyone! My name is Rangina & I'll be running for presidency of the UCL Afghan Society.

Upon joining the society, I was drawn to the chance to celebrate my culture. Being the Welfare Officer of the society made me appreciate the sense of belonging within the community as I help organise events like the games night, girls night & ACW charity bake sale.

Characteristics of our society that I will instil:

  • 🇦🇫 Pride and representation in our culture: Events to celebrate our roots like a Nowruz event & movie nights showing classic Afghan films to share our rich culture
  • 🎉 Events: Icebreakers,  girls' + boys' nights & sports socials will foster a welcoming & entertaining atmosphere
  • 🎗️ Strong affiliations with charity: As part of the Media team in Afghan Charity Week (ACW), it's crucial to give back when we can. A portion of event proceeds will fundraise for causes like helping those in conflicted states (Palestine, Sudan, Iraq,  Yemen etc) & helping the advance of Afghanistan
  • 🗓️ Introducing career events: With connections, I will bring panel events of  professionals & other Afghan student unions, providing insight into their pathways to success & allowing us to connect with the Afghan diaspora
  • 🌟 Collaborations: Constantly surrounded by diversity, I value learning about other cultures & finding the beautiful similarities. I will incorporate collaborations with other university Afghan societies as well as other UCL cultural societies - enriching us all in our
