Shu Yi Tan

Having played team sports for most of my life, I have come to realise that camaraderie and trust in a team are the foundations for success. The best teams I have been on, are the ones where everyone genuinely trusts each other on and off the field and I am running for women’s captain to do my part and try to achieve this goal.

I wish to create a positive and conducive environment for everyone to learn and to grow, and to create an outlet for everyone to forge connections and friendships that will last. I hope to foster a training environment where everyone feels empowered, valued, and motivated to improve. To achieve this, I aim to create a culture of open communication, where everyone is able to voice out their opinions and feel heard. I also aim to lead by example, by giving my all during trainings and being there for everyone on the team.

In this respect, my past experiences as my previous school’s netball team captain have taught me the skills necessary to achieve this. Additionally, I believe that my strong organisational skills will be useful in helping to plan and manage training schedules.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” In building a cohesive and bonded team, I believe that we will go far, and take UCL Ultimate to greater heights. It is my passion for this sport, and my commitment to this team that I hope will compel you to vote for me to be the next women’s captain.
