Rukaiya Tasneem

Hi I'm Rukaiya, a final year Human Sciences student! What appealed to me about this role is my experience in attending academic talks and events at various institutions such as UCL, The Wellcome, RSA and the Crick Institute. What I've loved is they each offered something different. Some were a nice break from the routine of academia, others exposed me to research I wouldn't have otherwise ventured into and others great sources of inspiration. I know the value and importance of what this role entails and I'm hoping to leverage the audience experience I have, in terms of what works and what doesn't work, into this role. I know that communication and organisation are integral. I’ve balanced my degree with working part time, attending social runs with UCLRAX, academic talks as well as a medical writing internship. I know that I can organise and balance my priorities. As a Human Sciences student, I’m confident and comfortable in critically engaging with diverse scientific disciplines. I've done modules in ‘Molecular Basis of Disease’, ‘Structure and Function of the Nervous System’ and ‘Neuroesthetics’ so it helps that I already have a good bank of people that I can reach out to! Reaching out to different subject specialists, organising meetings and following up on them is something I’ve done extensively and something that I’m always on top of. I'm really looking forward to joining the other committee members to put on some fun, engaging and inspiring academic events.

Adam Klicka

I'm Adam, currently in my second year pursuing Natural Sciences and I'm eager to contribute to the magazine as Academic Officer. During my Science Communication module, I actively collaborated with academics, establishing a valuable foundation that positions me as a strong candidate for the position.

While my primary focus lies in physics, where I've garnered significant experience, I am also intrigued by the application of physics to medicine. This dual interest allows me to bring a diverse perspective to the magazine, catering to a broad spectrum of scientific interests. I'm excited to share my vision for positive changes that will elevate our academic community's experience with the magazine.

Diverse and Engaging Academic Talks:

  • I plan to curate a series of academic talks that span a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, ensuring inclusivity and catering to the diverse interests within our community.
  • By inviting distinguished guests, both nationally and internationally, we can bring fresh perspectives and groundbreaking ideas to our members.

Interactive Online Platforms:

  • In addition to in-person talks, I aim to expand our online presence with interactive webinars, Q&A sessions, and live discussions. This will create a dynamic space for intellectual exchange beyond the pages of the magazine.
  • Utilizing social media and digital platforms, we can foster a sense of community engagement and encourage active participation from our readers.

VOTE ADAM!

Savani Sawaikar

As an academic officer, I envision creating a platform for inquisitive individuals that allows them to truly delve into topics they're passionate about by talking to scientists, researchers and academics. I believe there's no better way to grow than getting your hands dirty and talking to the core people who are shaping the present and I aim to facilitate that through academic talks; debates on scientific topics; and opportunities to understand research groups and work in progress at UCL and other universities.

Armed with strong communication and time management skills based on experience when running a young enterprise, which involved talking to a lot of clients and setting up opportunities for the team to upskill and grow, I feel like I would make a good addition to the team for this role. I look forward to collaborating with the rest of the committee and making the year enjoyable and even more intellectually rewarding for all of us.

Vote for me thanks!
