Hello! I’m Michi and I’m running for classes and scheduling coordinator!
If someone had said I’d be near-religiously attending weekly salsa classes in my 3rd year of uni, I would have laughed. But here I am, more invested in learning to execute a clean double turn and “draw a smiley face with my hips” than working on my final-year research project!
I’ve come to realise that our weekly classes form the foundation of our society. They are a collective source of stress relief and enjoyment after a long day of lectures (because isn't dancing to Vivir Mi Vida the ultimate mood-booster?) and it’s a place for people to unite and grow together. Moreover, they've fostered the supportive atmosphere of the community that is present both you're learning tentatively new steps in class or ripping up the dancefloor at Salsa Soho.
Having led a volunteering initiative for over a year at UCL, I am well-versed in event management, planning logistics, and liaising with the Students’ Union and external organisations. With these skills, I hope to arrange for our classes to be in larger, more ventilated rooms and alleviate the workload of the current committee by taking on the more behind-the-scenes work that goes into ensuring the classes and workshops run smoothly.
Given a chance, I would love to dedicate more time to Salsa Soc and help continue making our society and the classes a safe space for anyone to explore their passion for salsa, no matter their level of experience!
