The Political Risk and Intelligence Society, as one of UCL's newly emerging societies, would provide the committee members with an opportunity to help the society grow and evolve. I would like to contribute to this growth, helping accommodate students from a wide range of backgrounds interested in the interplay between political affairs and intelligence.
I have always been passionate about the intersection of politics, intelligence and global affairs and their interplay and impacts on one another, and I believe that, as General Manager, PRIS would help me deepen my understanding of this spheres, whilst improving my communication skills.
I am standing because I want to help create an environment that stimulates students interested in political risk, as well as work closely with the society's executive team to help organise intellectually stimulating events and activities for students interested in the political risk industry.
I believe the position of General Manager are ideally suited for my characteristics and past experiences. As Head Girl and House Captain (4 consecutive years) at my High School, I learnt effective communication and organisation skills, tackling the challenges of reaching consensus fairly and equitably. I have always enjoyed leadership roles and wanted to take on a different kind of challenge as General Manager of a society.
Hello everyone! I’m Tan Wei, a year 2 BSc Politics and IR undergraduate and I’m running to be General Manager of PRIS!
Why am I running? Broadly, I’m driven by a passion to be more involved in the scene and, more importantly, to do my part for a society that serves as an important platform for its members to pursue their passions in the world of political risk, intelligence and finance, and gain insights into these industries!
Why the position of General Manager? I find the role to be vital – in ensuring the society’s smooth administration, the General Manager guarantees that the society can focus on serving its members. Furthermore, having served as Secretary in UCL’s Singapore Society and possessing a penchant for organisation, there is alignment between my personal qualities and the role's functions.
If elected, I will ensure that PRIS runs like clockwork by ceaselessly identifying areas to streamline internal administration, through optimising the organisation of documents to ensure ease of reference by committee members and thus enhancing efficiency. I will also seek to strengthen the committee’s cohesiveness through vitalising internal coordination. Finally, I will support my fellow committee members in realising our collective visions for the society.
It would be an honour to have your vote and I look forward to helping to establish strong foundations for PRIS as a nascent society, and serving its members!
