I’d be thrilled to be Live Music Society’s Freshers’ Rep this year and share my passion with like-minded musicians! At school I was leader of the Music Society where I organised a few concerts with my peers and led everything from rehearsals to MC’ing, and also started a popular Songwriting Club.I’m so happy to have led initiatives that contributed to the society’s success & hope to bring this very energy & enthusiasm as Freshers’ Rep.It’s been great getting to know this community through events like the Live Music families social– when I attended multiple gigs at UCL during freshers’ week,I was so excited by the presence music has on campus;the improv & jam was especially thrilling.Until recently I was in a band–we performed at school many times and enjoyed jamming and improvising.I was the lead singer and played guitar too;I’ve played the guitar since I was 9 and took up the piano on my own 3 years ago. When I was 10 I started singing, and songwriting was a natural progression;recently I began producing and hope to release some songs soon.I’m inspired by a range of music including r&b, pop, hip-hop.Given my love for writing & collaboration,an idea I’d propose as the Freshers’ Rep is to have weekly writing workshops where people can share their music & learn from others.I love connecting with people and am always ready to talk about music or anything else.Helping to lead a society full of such incredible musicians would be an honour. I hope to see you as a Freshers’ Rep soon!

Hey! I'm Lucy, I'm a second-year language student and I do music stuff (piano, guitar, production etc...)!

As a fresher, I found the idea of joining a new society, especially one that required live performance, really daunting, and I really regret not getting more involved! Looking back, I wish I'd gotten started earlier, as there are so many exciting opportunities, and performing's such a buzz.

As a fresher's rep, I'd want to make the society feel more accessible for newcomers and be the first point of call/friendly face. Being a second year, I can be a helpful link to meet others in the society, like a little network bee in the hive of live music. I'd also want to push for more social events, as it can be hard to get to know people if you aren't in a band, and chatting to new people at loud gigs isn't always the easiest.

Key info:

Fav song atm - Gilded Lily, Cults

Top song ever- Young hearts run free, Candi Staton

Fav song to play - Isn't she lovely, Stevie Wonder

Look forward to meeting you guys!

After joining the UCL Live Music Society, I am further motivated to pursue my music passion and incentivized to apply for the fresher’s rep for the following reasons.

Firstly, I want to be more involved in the live music society. Fresher’s representative simply provides more opportunities for me to communicate with other talent musicians. I will be able to make more friends with similar music tastes or even explore some interesting music genres. Taking this step to dig deeper into music is so satisficing and thrilling for me. As a keyboardist, I already joined Extravabandza and Rhapsody. The collaboration with bandmates genuinely consolidates my interests and confirms that live music society is definitely the right place for me to “root” in UCL.

Secondly, I want to bring more “fresher blood” into the society and reflect some of their thoughts to the society through taking the representative role. Either in the rehearsals or actual performance, I realized that there might be a lack of smooth communication with the freshers. I fully understand that it’s extremely difficult to run such a large society , but I just wish to contribute to a part of the process, to bring the freshers more involved and pass clearer messages or instructions to them, for the sake to make the society better as a whole.

All in all, I just hope to devote my passion and effort into live music society, and I hope the society can give me the opportunity of being the fresher’s representative.
