Candidates

Hannah Khairaz

Hi everyone! My name Hannah Khairaz and I am a second year Biomedical Science student. If elected as your Academic Secretary, I will be committed to ensuring scientific knowledge is accessible and presented to a wide audience. Exploring and discussing science as well as giving speakers a platform to present their research and ideas is something I find important.

I propose to connect with a diverse range of speakers making information as accessible to everyone as possible, organise regular academic and career talks to suit different interests, and allow students to connect with industries, recruiters, scientists, professors and researchers. My aim is to create an inclusive and interactive environment, and ensure collaboration with companies, professionals and other societies. I would also like to get member feedback through regular surveys to ensure academic events organised suit different interests.

Life Science is an exciting and upcoming field with many opportunities, and if I were elected as your academic officer, I would be committed to ensuring you get the best opportunities and learning experiences from UCL Life Sciences Society.

Ammarah Malik

I am keen to get students from any academic background more involved in the life sciences because it is so applicable to everyone! I would like to develop people’s intellectual curiosity by organising more academic talks and hopefully spark people’s academic interests in a particular topic. I also believe it would be great to introduce something like a journal club to further inspire intellectual curiosity and develop members ability to discuss scientific theories. I'm also open to any more suggestions from members so if any of this sounds like something you would want to see from the society, then please vote for me :)

Anna M Golova

Hello voter!

My name is Anna and I'm a second year Biomedical Sciences student. Currently, I'm the interim academic representative and I'm organising academic events for the second term. I'd love to do this the rest of the year too, because the LSS committee is composed of wonderful people and I like working with them.

Apart from already being the interim academic rep, I also have other experience organising events and communicating with academics. In my first year university, I was the hall rep for my student accommodation and a student representative. Overall, this experience has allowed me to learn how to plan events and how to communicate with people from the university.

As the interim officer, I've reached out to academics at UCL and the Francis Crick Institute, and to several companies. In second term, there will be lectures by some of those I contacted. Additional events I'd like to organise are lectures by academics from Oxford or Cambridge and a lecture on quantitative biology. Ofcourse, there will be many more events!

In summary, please vote for me because:

  • I'm already the interim rep, meaning I know the gist of the role
  • I have experience in other academic and organisational roles
  • I plan to organise cool events!

Thank you for voting and I hope to see you at our events this year :).
