Edene Imona

Hello! My name is Edene, I am a 2nd Year History student turned new screenwriter with a passion for film culture. My student loan has taken me to multiple events, interviews and film festivals, and I strongly believe that networking has improved me as a writer. If I was elected, I would focus on diversifying the range of professionals in the FilmSoc network, especially internationally. I would also provide more events and workshops specific to television as well as film, and some less formal activity based workshops alongside more formal events as well as collaborative events with other societies. Thank you!

Artemis Babazadeh-Gitiforoz

Hello everyone!

I'm Artemis, a final year History student who would like to rejoin the committee and restart some projects and events which I once helped to run!

Last year at Film Soc, I introduced the much enjoyed Culture Nights. Fortunately, here at our Film Society, we have a population of students who are eager and willing to engage in international cinema to see what the world of film, outside of the UK and Europe, have to offer us. However, the cultural nuances and messages aren't always taken in so well. And occasionally we try to interpret the details of "foreign" cinema through a home grown lens.

The purpose of Culture Nights is to introduce viewers to a particular genre, region or school of cinema not just via a screening of the film, but with an introduction to the conditions, thoughts and cultural nuances that came together to become the film. By doing so, we can hopefully comprehend the particular themes of international cinema, which we aren't so used to experiencing, as something grounded and human, rather than mysterious and unfamiliar.

I also intend to hold a greater number of narratology and story based workshops to get us into discussion about why story is so important and how we can grow and develop as story makers.

Thank you so much for your consideration!
Artemis

Aarohi Vira

I'm standing for your workshop/cultures rep because I'm genuinely so passionate about this society - it's one of the best things I've been so lucky to join at UCL, and I try to be as involved in it as I can. I've been on every term film since I've been at UCL and I've met some of the best, most talented people here, so I would be so grateful to be able to continue working with these awesome people on the committee and to give back to the rest of the society. I have attended various workshops hosted by filmsoc since I've joined; there's so much to learn and I'm always so excited to learn more about the amazing world of film, so I promise I will continue to deliver a wide range of really exciting workshops and events for us all. I'm already on the committee of the genfem society, and I've worked on hosting events, collabs, and workshops for our society before, so you can trust that I know what I'm doing with this! I know that filmsoc is home to a huge number of people all with different levels of knowledge, interest, and experience, and I really want to work on making sure that the range of opportunities we provide in our events and workshops reflects this accurately and caters to absolutely everyone, so we can all get the most possible out of this amazing society. As an aspiring filmmaker myself, I cherish every opportunity I have to get involved in the world of film, and I would be so excited to be able to do that as a committee member of (imho) the best society at UCL.

Sai Sreenivedita Cavuturi

My tenure at Project Nyay'ri has been a transformative experience that has equipped me with valuable skills and perspectives, directly applicable to the responsibilities of the Workshop and Cultures Officer at the Film Society. Through my role at Project Nyay'ri, I have honed my abilities in content creation, networking, and community engagement, all of which are crucial for cultivating a thriving film culture.

In terms of content creation, my work at Project Nyay'ri involved ideating and crafting impactful content to raise awareness about legal rights and mental health. This experience has cultivated my storytelling abilities, a skill that is instrumental in curating engaging Q&A sessions and workshops for the Film Society. I am adept at creating content that not only informs but also inspires, ensuring that our workshops resonate with the diverse interests and aspirations of our members.

Furthermore, my outreach efforts at Project Nyay'ri involved connecting with organizations for collaborations and partnerships. This networking experience has provided me with a nuanced understanding of building fruitful relationships within the community. As the Workshop and Cultures Officer, I plan to leverage this skill to engage with filmmakers, industry professionals, and the broader Film Society, fostering collaborations that enhance our offerings and elevate the cinematic experiences we provide.
