I am putting myself forward for the role of first year Representative in the diplomacy society as I have a great interest in diplomacy, and even though I am only in first year, I feel it may be something I would like to pursue in the future. I am studying ESPS so the society is very relevant to my course, and although I have only been here over a month, I have already seen that the diplomacy society organises a number of interesting events that seem extremely interesting and also beneficial to my personal development! That’s why I would love to get involved!!
With some experience of roles like this in the past, such as being an elected member of my school student council and my school’s Head Boy, I have experience representing my peers thoughts and opinions.
I would love to make diplomacy society a better and more active place, so that it can continue creating amazing events, such as Pizza and Politics or Pub Quizzes, as well as Embassy Visits.
I have good organisational skills (I work as a teacher) and have taken up leadership roles before (founding a Politics society at my school and being a Senior Prefect there).
Having attended a variety Diplomacy society events, I have felt extremely welcomed and enthused by the friendly nature of the team. This, paired with putting on enjoyable events, such as the recent IMO visit, creates an environment that, as a first year, I would love to be a part of in a more involved capacity.
As I feel I have shown with my work the wonderful TDR team, I have a number of ideas that I believe could create a more varied society within UCL. As the First Year Representative, fuelling quality engagement would be my main goal as I would hope to create an even larger community of students interested in diplomacy.
From the first diplomacy breakfast, I have been inspired to join what I believe to be a professional, yet personable, society. I hope I can join the committee to further this in the future and to make the positive impact I know I can.
Thank you
Hello everyone,
My name is Yasmine and I am currently a first-year Politics and International Relations student. As an Algerian with an international exposure, I have been exposed to different cultures and experiences since young. This global exposure has fuelled my deep interest in the nuances of international relations and diplomacy. This firsthand experience has installed in me a passion for fostering understanding and collaboration among diverse communities. It has equipped me with the ability to navigate the complexities of cross-cultural communication and appreciation, a skill set that I believe is integral to effective representation and collaboration within our diverse student body, which is why I would like to nominate myself as a First-Year Representative.
My strong communication skills, developed through living in different countries and learning new languages, will enable me to be a voice for our diverse student body. Additionally, I am prepared to take the lead in organising events that celebrate cultural richness and foster unity. Beyond that, I offer my problem-solving skills and adaptability to assist the committee whenever needed.
