Hi guys, I am a relatively new official member of our exciting UCL dementia research society, but I have unofficially been following the society since fresher’s week. I am a second year Neuroscience student and for my personal statement I droned on about dementia research, which I personally believe is the reason I got in. More then 55 million people worldwide live with dementia therefore dementia research is intriguing to most researchers but especially to a neuroscientist, so to be part of this society is second nature to most of us and I am applying to be vice president so that I can spread this intrigue to students in other fields as well.
If elected I plan on helping the president with leading the committee in an inclusive and fun way by using my previous experience as amnesty committee president at school. I want to increase the amount of social and taster events, for example have an end of year trivia pub quiz in December or a session where we just sit and do puzzles/play card games since studies show this can marginally reduce your chances of developing dementia. Moreover, I would like to introduce the idea of monthly sessions where members can get together and discuss the latest developments in the field of dementia research and discuss it with their peers from other fields and gain insight into how dementia research is intersectional.
Thank you for reading my manifesto and if you have any questions feel free to contact me through my UCL email: [email protected]
