Hi! I am Wasifa – a 1st year MBBS student. I have been the Media Officer for DRS since September 2021 (I joined in the last year of my undergrad BSc) and I want to remain part of the committee and continue my role. Being a Media Officer, I have experience and knowledge on how to promote the society and its events by creating eye-catching and relevant material for its social media pages.
I have understood how to market the events in an engaging and ‘modern’ way to grow our society further. This, along with my past experiences, such as planning and executing a campaign to help the homeless in London and creating posters to promote events at a care home, have equipped me with time-management and team-working skills. I hope to utilise these to contribute to this important society and committee.
For how common dementia is, I do not believe there is enough awareness. I am intrigued by dementia through my studies and by seeing its impact first-hand at the care home I volunteer at. I would like to remain as the Media Office for DRS so that I can contribute to its aims of raising awareness, and learn more about dementia myself.
I can’t wait to promote and be part of all the exciting events planned this year! Thank you! :)
Hello! My name is Larisa Morometescu and this year I’m running for the Events Officer and Media Officer positions within the committee of the Dementia Research Society. As a psychology final year student, I believe a position in the Dementia Research Society committee would give me the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills towards raising awareness for dementia, especially within the UCL community.
Being a Media Officer would allow me to create a “virtual image” of our society. Giving the increase in social media usage, I believe that well-structured content and increased activity on our social media platforms would provide an easily accessible way of raising awareness for dementia within the student community, as well as a means of attracting prospective members. In this sense, I plan to:
- Increase activity on the society’s Instagram page and engage more with the audience through different posts, stories, polls, etc.
- Social Media Campaign: to promote various volunteering opportunities for students within charities and organisations that work with patients with dementia. I believe that this will make volunteering more accessible for students who wish to help those in need.
- Share all events, including PhD talks, workshops, and quiz nights on our Instagram page, so that all the information members need is only one click away!
