When I joined UCL last year, I, like a lot of other people, was not prepared for the demands that would be placed upon my mental health. I am already someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, so experiencing such an intense shift felt like I had been thrown in at the deep end.
Going through this has really taught me how to better cope with and balance the responsibilities of university life. Mental health is something incredibly important to me, so I know that as Welfare Officer I would be determined and able to provide the correct facilities to support CAS members going through the same struggles.
In my personal life I work really hard to make sure that I always act upon my values of empathy and no judgement. Additionally, I feel very strongly that balance and community are fundamental to a positive experience when managing responsibilities. As your Welfare Officer, I promise to always make time for regular check-ins regarding workload, concerns with your position within CAS, adjustments you feel necessary, and any other discussions you feel fit regarding your wellbeing. I would also like to work closely with our Social Secretary to ensure a strong sense of community and support throughout CAS through the organisation of regular social events.
I believe that CAS is most effective when all of its members feel supported and capable of fulfilling their role within the team, and this is what I hope to facilitate as your future Welfare Officer.
