Samir Ali

I'm Samir and I'm a first year BSc Social Sciences student.

Coming from a non-selective state school background my entire life, I understand and relate to how hard it is being in an environment where other people expect to have heard of what school you went to or overhearing people talking about their 'big' struggles which you overcome every single day.

Personally, I grew up in Surrey (lived on a council estate, I'm not rich) so I was surrounded by private school kids all the time and so I understand to an extent what struggles you may have whilst adjusting to UCL given its prestigious and international status.

I have a good understanding of social mobility and of the education system in the UK, from researching the topic for my EPQ in college, to writing essays relating to the topic for some of my modules, and studying in the IOE itself. Combine this with my own personal experiences and I will be able to act as a good liaison between the committee and society, and you guys!! (first years).

If you vote for me, you will be able to:

- Contact me for any suggestions to improve the 93% Club here at UCL, such as for future events, both social or career wise

- Talk to me privately at any point about any experiences you have had involving private school students, (or even just for a rant about uni lol)

- Receive help and advice to make sure that you feel comfortable studying at UCL

- Guidance for any applications for social mobility career schemes

I want to be here for you guys!
