Tanisha Mwendah

Hi I’m Tanisha, a 3rd year biomedical engineering student nominating myself for Technology Editor.

I have always been drawn to anything futuristic and thought-provoking in tech. In particular, the practical and ethical considerations of developing medical technology from prosthetics to brain computer interfaces. Good journalism requires the ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences at any level, so I want to offer a combination of engaging, impactful, and interdisciplinary content.

Over my time at university I have appreciated being a member of Science Magazine,  having attended events (especially guest talks) and experienced publishing my own work. Through studying a science journalism minor at UCL, I’ve also enjoyed editing other people’s writing and learning more about their interests in the process. Being a student ambassador and volunteer have also helped me enhance my organisation and leadership skills.

As an Editor, I would bring credibility, creativity, and reliability to every contribution. It was journalism that got me interested in STEM in the first place, and I want to share the love of science with others through this community. While guiding people through the publishing process, I’d aim to create a welcoming space for anyone who gets involved. I hope to collaborate with the committee to keep the magazine as varied, intriguing, and informative as possible. Thank you for your consideration!

Samadhi Herath

I’m a Second Year Neuroscience student with a deep passion in the intersection of technology and the human brain. My experience exploring the Imperial College Brain Bank and the Cancer Research Labs of The University of Melbourne deepened my appreciation for how technological tools have reshaped modern research, from AI driven imaging to data-driven diagnostics. These experiences gave me the opportunity to engage with active researchers in their fields and understand how collaboration between technology and science is inevitable, but also vital for advancing modern research. Drawing from my background in undertaking my modules in machine reasoning and python programming, I’d be able to engage with both technical experts and curious readers, aiding in connecting to the interdisciplinary audience. Through the platform, I aim to create articles that inform and inspire, whilst ensuring its accuracy. I’ll work to bring the fascinations of students and researchers to light, creating an environment for the complex ideas to become conversation.
