After our usual (SSEES or other UCL) lectures, tutorials, academic research, et cetera, SSEES Society is where we come not only to relax, but also discover, socialise, and reflect - all for our curiosity of the nuances and hidden joys of our SSEES region. While the Society is competent at this goal, I, present at many things SSEES despite being from the US, have some perspective-shaping ideas to spice things up.

No matter your political views, it’s clear that there are so many delights in the SSEES Library just waiting to make our days - if only we would read them. Belarus magazine, Nazarbayev’s books, Western critiques - I will highlight these and more in Library-centric events, to show how playfulness is central to being a sincere student. Pub socials have a place - but socials diversification will ensure socials stand for genuine relaxation/exploration, not for delayed stress and sleep deprivation. SSEES itself holds intriguing events outside the Society - I stand for promoting these through Society communication channels to deepen our love for our storied region.

For both these and more “everyday” matters, I have and will be approachable, in English, Mandarin, etc. I make myself seen as an HPE student at SSEES, sitting at the front of every module lecture, driving most of my tutorials and the Post-Soviet Press Group, and chatting with you at length at Society events. Elsewhere, I will also be on WhatsApp/Telegram for accessible advice.

Vote Roy - presence and fun, balanced.

For me, my year are my ride or dies. Part of my degree that I've loved is being able to mix with people taking other courses through modules (shoutout to Tom and our breakfast discussions about Russian espionage). I believe learning should be collaborative, and that discussion is essential to understanding and loving the humanities. As your year Rep, I'll actively listen, clearly represent your views to staff, and keep you informed via group chats without spamming you. My goals would be to make SEESS as connected as possible, with debates where we can learn about culture from the source. As ultimately that's why a lot of us are studying the course, minus the finance bros, for whom it's still a bit important. I'm outgoing, friendly, and hardworking, with experience in representative roles, passionate about economics though not finance as of now, and I am 'good at honest open communication' - my boyfriend.

I hope to make SEESS a place where we can thrive, challenge, and together reach our potential.I also promise I'm not an anarchist.
