Good day to you all, postgrads and undergrads alike! My name’s Alex and I would be honoured to act as your postgrad representative for this distinguished narod! As a Romanian raised in London, I give all my gratitude to the opportunities that SSEES has provided me to learn more about my country and her neighbours. What started as a curiosity for the institution’s library collection led me on a road towards getting to know this fantastic community in a number of exciting academic and social events.
Being that I am a Master’s student in the Engineering faculty, my active involvement in SSEES society is motivated by one thing: cultural immersion. To me, this society is where I go to step away from the science and be amongst those who share a special passion for the Slavonic way of life! If variety is a spice, then this place is my mirudia!
Having said all this, why should I, as an afficionado, take all these treasures for granted? Hence why I wish to give back, my dear postgrads, and act as the voice that communicates your concerns and wishes. I will collaborate closely with the events officer to arrange more themed lectures and pub quizzes. I am also quite certain we all love a good embassy visit, and during my term as your rep, not only will there be more to come, but we can highlight the role that our postgrads play in influencing conversation. If you vote for me, I will see to it that your time at SSEES is adorned with a sense of belonging, just as it has been for me!
